Vértigo (film)
''Dizziness'' () is a 1946 Mexican drama film directed by Antonio Momplet, starring María Félix, Emilio Tuero and Lilia Michel. It tells the story of a love triangle where a young widowed mother finds herself attracted to her daughter's fiancé. The film is based on the 1926 novel ''Alberte'' by Pierre Benoit. Plot Mercedes Mallea (María Félix) is a woman who married when she was almost a child, and became widowed while she was still young and attractive. Despite her youth, Mercedes decides to spend a lonely life on her ranch, while her daughter Gabriela (Lilia Michel) leaves to study abroad. Years later, Gabriela returns home to introduce her mother to Arturo (Emilio Tuero), her future husband. Conflict breaks out when a deep and dangerous attraction begins to emerge between Mercedes and Arturo. Antonio Momplet
Antonio Momplet (1899 – 10 August 1974) was a Spanish film director and screenwriter. He worked in Spain, France, Argentina (during the Golden Age of Argentine cinema) and Mexico. Life and career Antonio Momplet was born in Cádiz, Andalusia. He worked as a journalist and translator of foreign films in Barcelona until 1927, when he moved to Paris and began to work for Gaumont Film Company, Gaumont. In the mid-1930s he moved back to Spain where he directed four feature films and founded the film journal ''Cine Art'', which quickly became influential. To avoid the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Argentina in 1937, and made eight feature films the following years. In 1943 he moved to Mexico to join the film industry there, and made a number of Mexican films both as director and writer for others, before he moved back to Buenos Aires in 1946. Arturo Soto Rangel (March 12, 1882 – May 25, 1965) was a Mexican film, television, and stage actor. Soto was best known for appearing in over 250 Mexican films. He appeared in one American movie, '' The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'', which won three Academy Awards and starred Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett, and many other successful actors. Soto last appeared on television in 1963, where he starred in ''Voy de gallo''. Early life Soto was the only son of Don José Nemesio de Jesús Soto Ornelas born on October 30, 1852, in Ciudad Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, México, and of a lady whose last name was Rangel. The Ariel Award () is an award that recognizes the best of Mexican cinema.
