Vénissieux Handball
Vénissieux handball is a French handball club from Vénissieux, Lyon, France. The club currently plays in Nationale 2, the fourth tier of French handball. They are most famous for winning the 1992 French Championship and the 1991 and 1992 French Cup. The club was founded in 1965 under the name ''l'Amicale Laïque Centre Pasteur'' (ALCP). They have previously been known as ''Handball Vénissieux 85''. After their sporting success in the early 1990s they were faced with economic difficulties, and after they could not pay a debt of 7 million Franc the club was relegated to the National 1 (third tier) on 14 June 1994. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. LNH Division 1, doing business as Starligue and currently known as Liqui Moly Starligue for sponsorship reasons, is the premier men's professional handball league in France. It is administered by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, under delegation from the French Handball Federation. Founded in 1952, it is currently contested by 16 teams. Éric Amalou (born 1 October 1968) is a French handball player who competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics and won bronze medals at the 1997 World Men's Handball Championship. Early life Amalou was born on Martinique and moved to Vénissieux at the age of 3. Early in his life he also played soccer, before deciding to focus on handball aged 17. Career Amalou started his career at Vénissieux HB, where he won the 1992 French Championship after finishing second in both 1990 and 1991. He also won the Coupe de France in 1991 and 1992. In 1994 he joined OM Vitrolles, where he won the Coupe de France in 1995. He left the team in 1996 due to the team's financial trouble. He then joined US Ivry HB. Here he won the 1997 French championship. In 1998 he joined German side VfL Gummersbach. After two years he joined ThSV Eisenach. In 2003 he returned to Ivry. Guéric Kervadec (born 9 January 1972) is a former French team handball player who was part of the France men's national handball team, French team that won the 1995 World Men's Handball Championship, 1995 World Championship; the first time France won a major international tournament. Denis Lathoud (13 January 1966 – 22 June 2025) was a French handball player and coach, who as a player won the 1995 World Championship; the first ever French gold medals at a major international tournament. He also competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics and in the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 1992, he was a member of the French handball team which won the bronze medal. Thierry Perreux (born 4 March 1963 in Soisy-sous-Montmorency, Val-d'Oise) is a French handball coach and former player. As a player he won the 1995 World Championship. He also won bronze medals competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Career Perreux started played handball at Saint-Gratien/Sannois HB. In 1980 he joined the French top league team USM Gagny. Here he won the 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986 and 1987 Frencg Championship and the 1987 Coupe de France. After eleven years he left Gagny and joined Vénissieux HB, where he won the French double in 1992. After a single season he left for OM Vitrolles, where he won the French championship in 1994 and 1996, the Coupe de France in 1993 and 1995 and the 1993 EHF Cup Winners' Cup.
