The Basketligaen (English: The Basketball League) is the highest professional basketball league in Denmark. The men’s first division was originally founded in 1957. Over the years, the league has undergone several name changes due to sponsorship deals. It was formerly known as Canal Digital Ligaen, Jordanligaen, and Premierligaen, among other names, including Elitedivisionen and 1. division. The current iteration of the league was officially established in 1998, though it has occasionally operated without a sponsor name. The Bakken Bears are the league’s all-time record holders, having won 18 titles. BMS is notable for securing 5 consecutive titles from 1986 to 1990. The league’s main TV partner is Sport Live. Værløse
Værløse () is a town in Furesø Municipality in the northwestern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. As of 1 January 2025, it has a population of 13,200. Situated on the west side of the Hillerød Motorway, between Farum Lake to the north and Søndersø Lake to the south, it is surrounded by forest on three sides. Modern Værløse emerged around Værløse station in the 1950s. The original centre of the parish was the village of Kirke Værløse, located three kilometres to the west. The 2018–19 Basketligaen was the 44th season of the highest professional basketball tier in Denmark. The season started on 25 September 2018 and ended on 13 May 2019. Bakken Bears defended its title. Bakken Bears is a Danish professional basketball club based in Aarhus. The club plays in the Basketligaen, the top-tier basketball league in Denmark. The 2019–20 Basketligaen is the 45th season of the highest professional basketball tier in Denmark. The season started on 22 September 2019 and was scheduled to end on 13 May 2020. On 17 March 2020, the season was ended prematurely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the standings at that time, the Bakken Bears were named Danish champions, defending their title.
