Västgötabergen
Västgötabergen is the Swedish language, Swedish name for a range of 13 to 17 stratified Mesa, mesas surrounding the Västgöta Plain (Swedish: Västgötaslätten). The plain, roughly corresponding to the northern part of the Provinces of Sweden, historic province of Västergötland, comprises multiple distinct plateaus, extending between Lake Vänern in the northwest, Lake Vättern in the northeast, and the South Swedish highlands, South Swedish Highlands in the south. The highest peaks are located in Falbygden, a historic cultural region in western Sweden, sometimes known as "Falan" due to its high plateau between the cities of Skövde and Falköping. The highest point is Ålleberg near Falköping, at 330 metres above sea level. Geologically, the region forms part of the Central Swedish lowland, Central Swedish Depression. Västergötland (), also known as West Gothland or the Latinized version Westrogothia in older literature, is one of the 25 traditional non-administrative provinces of Sweden (''landskap'' in Swedish), situated in the southwest of Sweden. Västergötland is home to Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden, which is situated along a short stretch of the Kattegat strait. The province is bordered by Bohuslän, Dalsland, Värmland, Närke, Östergötland, Småland and Halland, as well as the two largest Swedish lakes Vänern and Vättern. Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden is Duchess of Västergötland. Administration The provinces of Sweden serve no administrative function. Instead, that function is served by counties of Sweden.
