Vännäs () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Vännäs is the seat of Vännäs Municipality and had 9,077 inhabitants in 2024. The name of the village has existed since 1535 (''Wendenäs'', "The place where a person walking down the western shoreline of the Vindel river must change her path"). Vännäs is the hometown of the hardcore band Refused. The Vännäs TV Tower, a 323-metre partially staffed broadcasting mast, is located in the vicinity of Vännäs. Twinned municipalities Vännäs Municipality is twinned with Cameri, Italy (since 2003), Hemnes Municipality, Hemnes, Norway and Storkyro, Finland. Vännäsdagarna Vännäsdagarna ("The Vännäs Days") is a three-day annual festival during the second weekend of July, which brings a mix of performers and street vendors to Vännäs every year. Vännäs Municipality
Vännäs Municipality () is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its administrative centre, seat is located in Vännäs. History In 1928 the urban areas in Sweden, locality Vännäs was detached from the rural municipality with the same name, forming the market town (''köping'') of Vännäs. The two entities were reunited in 1971. In 1974 Bjurholm Municipality was added. A split took place in 1980 when Bjurholm Municipality was re-established. Geography The municipality is located just west of Umeå Municipality, where Umeå is the seat, with about 110,000 inhabitants, and it is part of the Umeå region. This is evident considering that the municipality has 1,500 people commuting ''to'' Umeå Municipality and about 400 commuters ''from'' Umeå Municipality. Vännäs TV Tower
Vännäs TV Tower () is a Swedish concrete television tower that has a mast on top. It is used for transmitting FM-/TV-broadcasting. The Vännäs TV Tower resembles the Gerbrandy Tower in IJsselstein, the Netherlands. They both are a concrete tower with a steel mast on top that is guyed to the ground. The Gerbrandy Tower is tall, while the Vännäs Tower is shorter at tall. Vännäs TV Tower was close to collapsing due to heavy icing in 1988. They managed to save the tower by spraying hot water and glycol from a helicopter. Main Line Through Upper Norrland
The Main Line Through Upper Norrland () is a long railway line between Bräcke, Jämtland County and Boden, Norrbotten County in Sweden. For military and regional policy reasons, it was built in very sparsely populated areas, far away from the more densely populated coast. The line has several branches to settlements on the coast, the ones to Umeå and Luleå being considered part of the line itself. Today the three largest settlements along the line are Boden (population 18,800), Älvsbyn (population 5,500) and Vännäs (population 4,100). In 2010, the Bothnia Line opened, which parallels the Main Line Through Upper Norrland along the coast from Sundsvall to Umeå. From 2013 all passenger traffic moved from the Main Line to the Bothnia Line, ending service between along the section between Bräcke and Vännäs. Frank Björklund
Frank Björklund (born 1960) is a Swedish surrealist painter, printmaker and sculptor. Career Björklund studied at a college in Härnösand (1976–79) and at the Ålsta Graphic School (1983–84). He has participated in exhibitions since 1983. In 1987, he won the Royal King, Carl XVI Gustaf Art Award. Björklund's influences include Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, and René Magritte.
