Väinölänniemi
Väinölänniemi is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is more commonly known for the Väinölänniemi Peninsula (nicknamed Vänäri), located in this district and surrounded by Kallavesi, with its beaches, sports fields and park areas. The area includes J. V. Snellman Home Museum, Kallavesi High School, Kanttila (Home of Minna Canth), Old Kuopio Museum, Kuopio Provincial Government Building, Kuopio Academy of Design, St. Nicholas Cathedral, VB Photography Center, and the three parks: Väinölänniemi Park, Piispanpuisto and Brahe Park. Kuopiorock
Kuopiorock (also Kuopio Rockcock or simply Rockcock) is a Finnish two- to three-day rock music festival held annually in Väinölänniemi, Kuopio, at the turn of July and August. The first event was held in 2003. In 2012, the event celebrated its 10th anniversary and the festival was held on 27–28 July. In connection with the event, there is a Campcock campsite. Väinölänniemi will be fenced throughout the event. In addition, several club gigs will be played around the city of Kuopio and a band race will be held in early summer, with the winner getting to perform in Rockcock. In 2006, Rockcock's novelty was Hevikaraoke. By 2007, the festival's event area expanded to include large Väinölänniemi Beach in the shore of Lake Kallavesi and the park area at the base of the peninsula, and the Peräniemi casino was added as a fourth stage. Kuopio Provincial Government Building
The Kuopio Governor Palace or State Provincial Office of Kuopio () is a former government building in Kuopio, Finland, located in the Väinölänniemi district on the Hallituskatu street in the immediate vicinity of Kuopionlahti and Väinölänniemi parks. It was designed by architect Konstantin Kiseleff, who completed the building plan in 1882. The staff of the Administrative Board of the Kuopio Province moved into the building in 1885. It represents the architectural style of the Neo-Renaissance. The building is fully protected from both the outside and inside. Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Kuopio
St. Nicholas Cathedral (; ; ) is the main church of the Kuopio Orthodox Parish in Väinölänniemi, Kuopio, Finland, and also the seat of the Orthodox Diocese of Karelia. The church was completed in 1903 and is dedicated to the memory of Saint Nicholas. The church, built between 1902 and 1903, was designed by the master builder Aleksander Isakson from Vyborg. The facade is plastered and painted to look like red brick, but there is also genuine brick under the plaster. Rönö
Rönö () is an island in Lake Kallavesi and also a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is located about 2,5 kilometers southeast of Kuopio Market Square, measured along the street network. Since 1988, the island has been connected to Väinölänniemi by a bridge. Rönö is a sought-after residential area and is one of the most expensive areas in Kuopio, along with the archipelago estates in Saaristokaupunki. Only detached, semi-detached and terraced houses have been built there. Most of the island was built during the boom of art in the 1980s and 1990s, but houses have also been built in the 2000s, and a few estates are still completely undeveloped. By the decision of the city council, tenant houses were once built on the highest point of Rönö. Rönö is the only areas in Kuopio where the average annual income of households exceeds €100,000. Kallavesi is a medium-sized lake in Northern Savonia, eastern Finland located around the town of Kuopio. Combined with the lakes Suvasvesi, Juurusvesi–Akonvesi, Muuruvesi, Melavesi, and Riistavesi Kallavesi forms an lake system named Iso-Kalla. Minna Canth
Minna Canth (; born Ulrika Wilhelmina Johnson; 19 March 1844 – 12 May 1897) was a Finnish writer and social activist. Canth began to write while managing her family draper's shop and living as a widow raising seven children. Her work addresses issues of women's rights, particularly in the context of a prevailing culture she considered antithetical to permitting expression and realization of women's aspirations. ''The Worker's Wife'' and ''The Pastor's Family'' are her best known plays, but the play '' Anna Liisa'' is the most adapted to the films and operas. In her time, she became a controversial figure, due to the asynchrony between her ideas and those of her time, and in part due to her strong advocacy for her point of view.
