Väinö Kivisalo
Väinö Kivisalo (18 October 188229 March 1953) was a Finnish politician and member of the Parliament of Finland, the national legislature of Finland. A member of the Social Democratic Party, he represented Häme Province South between August 1929 and July 1948. Prior to being elected, he was imprisoned for political reasons following the Finnish Civil War. Early life Kivisalo was born on 18 October 1882 in Karkku in the south-east of the Grand Duchy of Finland and was the son of a farmer. When he was 14 years old his father died following which the family were evicted from their homestead by the owner. Kivisalo was a farmworker in Karkku and a labourer in several places including Suoniemi, Akaa, Urjala, Hattula and Vanaja. He was also a factory worker in Tampere. Väinö Linna (; 20 December 1920 – 21 April 1992) was a Finnish author and a former soldier who fought in the Continuation War (1941–44). Linna gained literary fame with his third novel, ''Tuntematon sotilas'' ( ''The Unknown Soldier'', published in 1954), and consolidated his position with the trilogy ''Täällä Pohjantähden alla'' ('' Under the North Star'', published in 1959–1963 and translated into English by Richard Impola). Väinö Olavi Leskinen (8 March 1917, in Helsinki – 8 March 1972, in Helsinki) was a Finnish politician, minister and a member of the parliament from Social Democratic Party of Finland. He is perceived as one of the major Finnish social democratic politicians of the 1950s and 1960s. Sports career and personal life Before his political career Leskinen was a successful swimmer in the association of Helsinki Workers' Swimmers. He won the 200 and 400 meter breaststroke events at the 1937 Workers' Olympiad in Antwerp. Väinö Lehmus (born Väinö Armas Lind; 11 January 1886 – 6 April 1936) was a Finnish stage and film and radio actor of the early 20th century. Career Väinö Lehmus was born Väinö Armas Lind. His father was a tailor. He initially attended trade school before studying for a business career. He began his acting career at the Tampere Theatre in 1906 and from 1915 to 1917 toured Finland performing in comedic operettas, often in the company of actor Iivari Kainulainen. Lehmus also served as the director for many working class theaters and was the theater director for the Vyborg Worker's Theatre from 1927 to 1928. Väinö David Lassila (9 March 1896 – 11 April 1939) was a Finnish physician, anatomist, and anthropologist who was a professor of anatomy at the University of Helsinki. He was the leading authority of the Finnish racial studies, but since the mid-1930s, Lassila dissociated himself from racial theories and became one of the prominent figures of Finland's human rights movement. Väinö Koskela
Väinö Koskela (31 March 1921 – 10 September 2016) was a Finnish long-distance runner. Originally a cross-country skier, he was inspired to take up track and field athletics by Finnish victories in the long-distance running events at the 1936 Summer Olympics. He began competing in 1945, following service in World War II, and made his first international appearance at the 1948 Summer Olympics, where he placed seventh in the men's 5000 metres event. The same year he was a national champion in both the 5000 metres and cross-country running and retained the former title through 1949. In 1950 he took home a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at that year's European Athletics Championships and continued to participate through the 1952 Summer Olympics, after which he retired from active competition and resumed a life of farming.
