Vrå
Vrå is a railway town in Hjørring Municipality, Hjørring Municipalities of Denmark, municipality, Denmark. It was the former municipal seat of the abolished Løkken-Vrå municipality. As of 1 January 2025, Vrå has a population of 2,681. History In 1370, the town's name was documented as ''Wra'', with later iterations of ''Vraa'', ''Wraa'', and ''Vro''. In Danish, "Vrå" means ''nook'' or ''corner''. Despite its long history, Vrå was only a small farming community until the late 19th century, when a station was constructed on the Vendsyssel Line, Vendsyssel railway line. The station building was erected in 1870 and the railway opened in 1871. The town largely grew up around the railroad, and most buildings were constructed after its completion. The town's population grew rapidly following the construction of the railroad; in 1850 the population had been 691, and by 1901 had grown to 1,594. Løkken-Vrå
Løkken-Vrå was a municipality (Danish language, Danish, ''Commune (subnational entity), kommune'') in the North Jutland County, Denmark until 1 January 2007. It was located on the northwest coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy on the northern Jutland peninsula. The municipality covered an area of , and had a total population of 8,828 (2005). The two main towns were Vrå and Løkken, Denmark, Løkken, where Vrå acted as the seat of the municipal council. Løkken-Vrå municipality ceased to exist following the Municipalities of Denmark#Municipal Reform 2007, Municipality Reform of 2007 (Danish: ''kommunalreformen''). It was merged with existing Hjørring, Hirtshals Municipality, Hirtshals, and Sindal Municipality, Sindal municipalities to form an enlarged Hjørring municipality with a total area of and a total population of ca. 67,816. Vrå Railway Station
Vrå railway station is a railway station serving the railway town of Vrå in Vendsyssel, Denmark. The station is located on the Vendsyssel Line from Aalborg to Frederikshavn, between Hjørring station and Brønderslev station. It opened in 1871. The train services are currently operated by the railway company Nordjyske Jernbaner which runs frequent regional train services to Aalborg and Frederikshavn. History The station opened in 1871 as the branch from Nørresundby to Frederikshavn of the new Vendsyssel Line opened on 16 August 1871. On 7 January 1879, at the opening of the Limfjord Railway Bridge, the Vendsyssel line was connected with Aalborg station, the Randers-Aalborg railway line and the rest of the Danish rail network. Hjørring Municipality
Hjørring Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish: '' kommune'') in North Jutland Region on the west coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , making it the largest in Vendsyssel, and it has a total population of 63,311 (2025). The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hjørring. Vendsyssel Railway Line
The Vendsyssel railway line () is an long standard gauge single track (rail), single track railway line in Denmark which runs through the historical region of Vendsyssel between Aalborg and Frederikshavn in North Jutland Region, North Jutland. It constitutes the northernmost part of the East Jutland longitudinal railway line (), the through route along the east coast of the Jutland Peninsula from the Denmark-Germany border, German border at Padborg to Frederikshavn. Frederikshavn () is a Danish town in Frederikshavn municipality, Region Nordjylland, on the northeast coast on the North Jutlandic Island in northern Denmark.
