Vráž (Písek District)
Vráž is a spa municipality in Písek District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 300 inhabitants. Administrative division Vráž consists of three municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Nová Vráž *Stará Vráž *Jistec Etymology The origin of the name Vráž is unsure and several hypotheses have emerged. The most likely interpretation is that the name was derived from the Slavic word ''ovrag'', meaning 'depression', 'gorge'. Geography Vráž is located about north of Písek and northwest of České Budějovice. It lies on the border between the Tábor Uplands and Blatná Uplands. The highest point is a nameless hill at above sea level. The municipality borders the Orlík Reservoir in the east. Orlík Reservoir
The Orlík Reservoir () is the largest hydroelectric dam in the Czech Republic. It dams the Vltava River near the village of Solenice, which is near the town of Příbram. The structure is named after Orlík Castle, which is situated a few kilometers above the dam. The dam has four turbines with a nominal capacity of 91 Megawatt, MW each having a total capacity of 364 MW. Lobkowicz Family
The House of Lobkowicz (''Lobkovicové'' in modern Czech, sg. ''z Lobkovic''; ''Lobkowitz'' in German) is an important Bohemian noble family that dates back to the 14th century and is one of the oldest noble families of the region. Over the centuries, the family expanded their possessions through marriage with the most powerful families of the region, which resulted in gaining vast territories all across central Europe. Due to that, the family was also incorporated into the German, Austrian and Belgian nobility. History The first Lobkowiczs were members of the gentry of north-eastern Bohemia in the late 14th century. On 3 August 1459 they were granted the title of Freiherr. In the 17th century, members of the family were awarded with the title of Prince, which was granted to them on 17 October 1623 by Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor.
