Volnovakha Bus Attack
The Volnovakha bus attack was an attack on a highway checkpoint near the village of Buhas outside of the Volnovakha municipality in the Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine on 13 January 2015. It resulted in the deaths of 12 passengers of an intercity bus and injuries to 18 others in the area. The attack was the largest single loss of life since the signing of the Minsk Protocol in September 2014, which attempted to halt the War in Donbas. The incident has been labeled an "act of terror" by both the Ukrainian authorities as well as the rebels. Initially, separatists took responsibility for this incident, which they thought was a successful destruction of the Ukrainian roadblock. After the information about civilian bus hit the news, they denied having "even technical possibilities" to shell that area. War In Donbas (2014–2022)
The war in Donbas, or the Donbas war, was a phase of the Russo-Ukrainian War in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine. The war began in April 2014, when Russian paramilitaries seized several towns. Ukraine's military launched an operation against them, but failed to fully retake the territory. Covertly, Russia's military were directly involved, and the separatists were largely under Russian control. The war continued until subsumed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In March 2014, following Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity, Russia occupied Crimea. Anti-revolution and pro-Russian protests began in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, collectively 'the Donbas'. Grad Rocket
The BM-21 "Grad" () is a Self-propelled artillery, self-propelled 122 mm multiple rocket launcher designed in the Soviet Union. The system and the M-21OF rocket were first developed in the early 1960s, and saw their first combat use in March 1969 during the Sino-Soviet border conflict. ''BM'' stands for ''boyevaya mashina'' ( – combat vehicle), and the nickname means "hail". The complete system with the BM-21 launch vehicle and the M-21OF rocket is designated as the M-21 field-rocket system and is more commonly known as a Grad multiple rocket launcher system. In NATO countries the system, either the complete system or the launch vehicle only, was initially known as the M1964. Several other countries have copied the Grad or developed similar systems. Hranitne, Volnovakha Raion
Hranitne (; ; ) is a village in Volnovakha Raion (district) in the Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine. The village is situated on the right (west) bank of the Kalmius river. The much smaller village of Staromarivka is just to the south, but on the other side of the river. There is a granite quarry just west of Hranitne. The Kalmius became the boundary between Donetsk People's Republic-controlled territory on the east bank of the river, and Ukrainian government-controlled territory on the west bank, after an offensive by the Russian-backed forces of the Donetsk People's Republic in August 2014 during the War in Donbass. The war has caused civilian and military casualties. Denis Vladimirovich Pushilin (born 9 May 1981) is a Russian politician who has served as the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) since 2018. He has held the position in an acting capacity ever since the Russian annexation of the DPR in 2022. He had previously served as Chairman of the People's Council, and became the acting head of state and government following the assassination of incumbent Alexander Zakharchenko amidst the conflict in the east Ukraine region. He successfully ran for election to a full term in the controversial 2018 elections. Telmanove
Boikivske (; ) or Telmanove (; ) is a rural settlement in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is located in the industrial Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Its population is The settlement has its roots in the German colony of Ostheim, founded in the mid-1800s at the invitation of the government of the Russian Empire. The Soviet Union renamed the town to Telmanove in 1935 after KPD leader Ernst Thälmann. After World War II, the German population was expelled by the Soviet government and the village was repopulated by Boykos. After becoming part of independent Ukraine in 1991.
