Voldemar Väli
Voldemar Väli (10 January 1903 – 13 April 1997) was an Estonian two-time Olympic medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling. Career Voldemar Väli was born in Kuressaare, on the island of Saaremaa. He began training in wrestling at age 17, and four years later competed at the 1924 Olympics, but was eliminated in a preliminary bout. In 1926 he won his first European title and established himself as a world top featherweight and later lightweight wrestler. He missed the 1932 Olympics because Estonia did not send a team due to the Great Depression, and finished out of the podium at the 1933, 1934, 1937 and 1938 European Championships; however, he earned a bronze at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. Voldemar Päts (cinematographer)
Voldemar Päts (born Vladimir Päts; February 15, 1902 – September 1942) was an Estonian cinematographer and actor. Early life and family Voldemar Päts was born Vladimir Päts in Tänassilma, in the Governorate of Livonia of the Russian Empire (now Estonia), the son of the Estonian Orthodox priest (1871–1940) and Ludmilla Päts (née Tšistjakova, 1879–1955). He was the nephew of the Estonian statesman Konstantin Päts (1874–1956), the artist Voldemar Päts (1878–1958), and the geographer (1880–1942). Career In 1931, Päts collaborated with Elmar Jaanimägi to create the first Estonian animated film, ''Kutsu-Juku seiklusi'' (The Adventures of Juku the Dog). During a visit to Estonia by Sweden's Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1932, the head of state Jaan Teemant forbade filming, and Päts was sentenced to two weeks of arrest or a fine of 10 kroons. Voldemar Noormägi
Voldemar Noormägi (10 August 1895 – 28 May 1968) was an Estonian lightweight weightlifter who won a bronze medal at the 1922 World Championships and placed 22nd at the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1923–24, he set three unofficial world records in snatch. Noormägi was born deaf and was inspired to begin weightlifting in 1909, when an Estonian professional wrestler and weightlifter Georg Lurich visited his school. Noormägi won the national lightweight title in 1923 and 1927, but at the 1924 World Championships, he injured his hand and failed to finish. Voldemar Lender
Voldemar Lender ( in Tallinn, Estonia – 30 September 1939 in Tallinn) was an Estonian engineer who was the mayor of Tallinn (or Reval at that time) from 1906 to 1913, notably being the first ethnic Estonian to become the mayor of Tallinn. Biography Lender was born to a family who owned a construction company. He first studied at Tallinn's Alexander Gymnasium, later attending the Saint Petersburg State University's Department of Physics and Mathematics from 1896 to 1897, then later attending the St. Petersburg Institute of Technology from 1897 to 1902. After graduating from the latter, he worked as an engineer at the Dvigatel wagon factory in Tallinn until 1906, a lucrative position for the time. Voldemar Rõks (15 July 1900 – 27 December 1941) was an Estonian association football, footballer. He studied economics at the University of Tartu between 1921 and 1924, but never graduated. Rõks worked as a procurator for Bank of Estonia. Career Rõks earned 2 caps for the Estonia national football team, Estonian national team in 1924. He spent his brief career playing for JK Tallinna Kalev and participated at the 1924 Summer Olympics. He became an Estonian champion in 1923 with JK Tallinna Kalev. He was arrested by the Soviet authorities and was deported to a labor camp in Perm Oblast. He died there due to an illness and hunger. Voldemar Henrikhovych Antoni (; 1886–1974) was a Ukrainian anarchist intellectual and the founder of the Union of Poor Peasants. Biography Voldemar Antoni was born in Huliaipole, the son of Czech mechanic Henrik Aloisevich Antoni and German Susana Yakovlevna Bonelis. At the age of five, he began his education at the local public school, while living with his uncle, a saloon keeper. As he was quiet and short-sighted, Antoni came to be known by his classmates only as "the boy with the glasses". In 1901, he finished school and left home, eventually returning to Huliaipole when he was eighteen years old and becoming a teacher in the local primary school. When he was reunited with his old schoolmates, he discussed his newfound anarchist political philosophy with them, drawing from what he had learnt while working with the anarchist group in Katerynoslav. Johann Voldemar Jannsen
Johann Voldemar Jannsen ( – ) was an Estonian journalist. He was one of the earliest figures of the Estonian national awakening, which he promoted through his newspaper, the ''Eesti Postimees'', and two Estonian Song Festivals. He wrote the nationalist song "Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm", which became the national anthem of Estonia after its independence. Jannsen was the father of poet Lydia Koidula. Voldemar Kuslap (born 24 September 1937) is an Estonian opera and operetta singer (baritone) and occasional actor. Biography He was born in 1937 in the city of Oudova in the RSFSR. In 1968, he graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory. From 1965 to 2010, he was a soloist at the Estonian National Opera. In total, he has done over 90 roles of opera and operettas.
