Vlasta Pavić
Vlasta Pavić (born 24 May 1957) is a Croatian lawyer and politician who served as Mayor of Zagreb from 2002 to 2005. She is the second woman to hold that office, and a member of the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP). She graduated at the Zagreb Faculty of Law in 1980. Term as mayor Pavić was elected mayor of Zagreb on 1 March 2002 after Milan Bandić (also a member of the SDP) was forced to resign due to a public scandal. She was elected with the support of city assembly members of the ruling coalition of the time the SDP and the HNS. On taking office she indicated she planned to continue the projects begun by Bandić. Bandić was elected as one of her two deputies shortly afterwards. However Bandić reportedly intended for Pavić to serve as his puppet mayor, which she refused. Vjesnik
''Vjesnik'' () was a Croatian state-owned daily newspaper published in Zagreb. Originally established in 1940 as a wartime illegal publication of the Communist Party of Croatia, it later built and maintained a reputation as Croatia's newspaper of record during most of its post-war history. It ceased publication in April 2012. "Tiskara Vjesnik" and "Vjesnik d.d." were the namesakes of the ''Vjesniks printing office and publishing house, respectively. During World War II and the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia regime which controlled the country, the paper served as the primary media publication of the Yugoslav Partisans movement. ''Hrvatska radiotelevizija'' ( HRT), or Croatian Radiotelevision, is a Croatian public broadcasting company. 2005 Zagreb Local Elections
Elections were held on 15 May 2005 in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Following the last local elections in 2001, Milan Bandić of the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP) had been re-elected as the mayor of Zagreb. In 2002, an incident made him resign in favor of Deputy Mayor Vlasta Pavić, also from the SDP. Pavić remained formally in control of the city until 2005. Milan Bandić
Milan Bandić (22 November 1955 – 28 February 2021) was a Croatian politician and the longest-serving mayor of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Bandić was mayor almost continuously from 2000 to 2021, except during the time between his resignation in 2002 and the 2005 election. He was also suspended from exercising his powers and duties for several months after his 2014 arrest over a corruption scandal.
