Lokomotīve Daugavpils, also known as Lokomotiv Daugavpils, is a Latvian motorcycle speedway team based in Daugavpils who race in the Polish Speedway Second League (2. Liga). Stadium Stadium Lokomotīve (former name Spīdveja centrs) is located at Jelgavas iela 54, Daugavpils. Its capacity is 10,000 seats. The track is 373 metres long and has a granite surface. The track record was set by Grigory Laguta (66.01 sec on 30 May 2010). History Founded in 1963, the club began league speedway in 1964, as part of the Soviet Union Championship. They won the silver medal in 1970 and 1971. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union the team continued to race in the Russian Team Speedway Championship, due to the lack of a team competition in Latvia. They won the bronze medal four times in 1995, 1996, 2001 and 2002. The team also competed in the Finnish league from 1994 to 2002. The Latvia national speedway team is one of the nations that compete in international motorcycle speedway. History As the Soviet Union The Soviet Union speedway team (which was composed predominantly of Russian riders but also Ukrainian, Latvian and Belarus riders) first competed in the 1961 edition of the Speedway World Team Cup, where they finished second in the East European round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1961 until their final World Cup in 1983. They reached the final on 12 occasions, winning the silver medal five times, in 1964, 1966, 1971, 1972, 1975 and the bronze medals three times, in 1967, 1969 and 1973. The 2008 Team Speedway Junior European Championship was the 1st UEM Team Speedway Junior European Championship season. The Final took place on 22 May 2008 in Florian Kapała Stadium in Rawicz, Poland. First edition European Championship was won by Sweden team. Results It was the first Championship title for Linus Eklöf (11 points in Final), Ludvig Lindgren (10 pts), Simon Gustafsson (9 pts), Linus Sundström (6 pts) and Niklas Larsson (0 heats). In Semi Final 1 in Güstrow, Germany won Germany team (45 points). Second was Denmark (38 pts) and they were qualified also. Team Speedway Junior European Championship
The European Under-23 Team Speedway Championship, formerly known as the ''Team Speedway Junior European Championship'' is an annual motorcycle speedway event. Inaugurated as a European Under-19 competition, the competition age limits have twice been amended. Since 2021, the event has been staged as the European Under-23 Team Championship. The inaugural 2008 edition was staged at the Florian Kapała Stadium in Rawicz, Poland, and won by the Sweden national under-19 speedway team, Swedish team. The next two editions were won by the Poland national under-19 speedway team. The event is organised by FIM Europe, formerly known as the Union Européenne de Motocyclisme, European Motorcycle Union (UEM) from 2008 until December 2012. The 2009 European Speedway Club Champions' Cup was the 12th motorcycle speedway championship for clubs competing in Europe. It was organised by the European Motorcycle Union (UEM). The competition was primarily for Eastern European teams and only featured Polish teams from three of the 'Big four' leagues, with the British, Swedish and Danish leagues choosing not to compete.
