The Virginia Cavaliers football team represents the University of Virginia (UVA) in the sport of American football. Established in 1887, Virginia plays its home games at Scott Stadium, capacity 61,500, featured directly on its campus near the Academical Village. 1887 Virginia Orange And Blue Football Team
The 1887 Virginia Orange and Blue football team represented the University of Virginia as an independent during the 1887 college football season. On November 13, 1887, the Cavaliers and Pantops Academy fought to a scoreless tie in the first organized football game in the state of Virginia. Students at UVA were playing pickup games of the kicking-style of football as early as 1870, and some accounts even claim that some industrious ones organized a game against Washington and Lee College in 1871, just two years after Rutgers and Princeton's historic first game in 1869. The William & Mary Tribe are a college football team representing the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Richard Von Albade Gammon (December 4, 1879 – October 31, 1897) was an American college football fullback who died after injuries sustained in a collegiate football game while playing for the Georgia Bulldogs. Biography Richard Von Albade Gammon was born December 4, 1879, in Rome, Georgia. He grew up on downtown Rome's 3rd Avenue and was a very talented athlete. University of Georgia Gammon attended the University of Georgia and played football on the 1896 and 1897 teams under Glenn "Pop" Warner and Charles McCarthy. Cavalier Marching Band
The Cavalier Marching Band (CMB) is the marching band at the University of Virginia. The band's original director, William "Bill" Pease, was the first full-time marching band director in the history of the University of Virginia. The Cavalier Marching Band made its debut on September 11, 2004, after a considerable donation was made by University of Virginia benefactors Carl and Hunter Smith to found the band in 2003. The CMB uses a mixture of both DCI-style glide step and Big Ten-style high step in its performances. Of its 200 members, all seven undergraduate schools at the University of Virginia are represented. The band performs a traditional pregame show prior to the start of football games, which usually features school songs such as "The Cavalier Song" and "Virginia Hail, All Hail".
