100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. There are three instructions given to the runners immediately before and at the beginning of the race: "on your marks", "set", and the firing of the starter's pistol. The runners move to the starting blocks when they hear the 'on your marks' instruction. 4 X 100 Metres Relay
4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures. Evolution of the Hindu-Arabic digit Brahmic numerals represented 1, 2, and 3 with as many lines. 4 was simplified by joining its four lines into a cross that looks like the modern plus sign. The Shunga would add a horizontal line on top of the digit, and the Kshatrapa and Pallava evolved the digit to a point where the speed of writing was a secondary concern. The Arabs' 4 still had the early concept of the cross, but for the sake of efficiency, was made in one stroke by connecting the "western" end to the "northern" end; the "eastern" end was finished off with a curve. Gábor Dobos
Gábor Dobos (born 21 February 1976 in Budapest) is a Hungarian sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. He finished fifth in the 60 metres at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham. His personal best time over 100 m is 10.17 seconds, achieved in July 1999 in Budapest. Dobos finished seventh with the Hungarian 4 x 100 metres relay team, which consisted of Viktor Kovács, Dobos, Roland Németh and Zsolt Szeglet (Zsolt Szeglet ran in the final only, Miklós Gyulai ran as fourth in the semifinals), at the 1999 World Championships. Dobos failed a doping test in 2000. In a May 2006 in-competition doping test he tested positive for drostanolone and testosterone, and was suspended from the 2006 European Championships pending the outcome of the B sample analysis. Roland Németh (born 19 September 1974 in Szombathely, Vas County) is a Hungarian athlete specializing in the 100 metres. He won the bronze medal at the 2002 European Championships in Athletics. Participating in the 2004 Summer Olympics, he achieved third place in his 100 metres heat, thus making it through to the second round. He finished sixth in the second round, thus failing to achieve qualification to the semi-finals. Németh finished seventh with the Hungarian 4 x 100 metres relay team, which consisted of Viktor Kovács, Gábor Dobos, Németh and Zsolt Szeglet, at the 1999 World Championships. Zsolt Szeglet (born 4 May 1977 in Keszthely, Zala) is a Hungarian athlete specializing in the 400 metres. Career Competing for the Baylor Bears track and field program, Szeglet won titles in the 4 × 400 m at the 2000 and 2001 NCAA outdoor championships.
