Claude Vigée
Claude Vigée (born Claude Andre Strauss; 3 January 1921 – 2 October 2020) was a French poet who wrote in French language, French and Alsatian language, Alsatian. He described himself as a "Jew and an Alsatian, thus doubly Alsatian and doubly Jewish". Life Vigée was born in Bischwiller, Bas-Rhin, the son of Germaine (Meyer), a homemaker, and Robert Strauss, who worked in business. He was descended from an old family of Alsatian cloth merchants. He spent his youth in Bischwiller, then attended secondary school in Strasbourg. Displaced from Alsace by the invasion of the Germans in 1940, he began to study medicine in Toulouse before joining the Résistance. In 1942, he published his first poems in the underground magazine "Poésie 42". He fled to the United States in 1943, where he obtained his doctorate in Romance studies, Romance Languages and Literature in 1947. Étienne Vigée
Louis-Jean-Baptiste-Étienne Vigée (2 December 1758 – 8 August 1820) was a French playwright and man of letters. Early life Born into an artistic family, he was the son of the pastellist Louis Vigée (1715–1767) and the brother of the painter Élisabeth Vigée. Career Vigée was popular in the salons for his pleasant personality and quick wit. He was employed as a secretary to Marie Joséphine of Savoy, the ''comtesse de Provence'', wife of future King Louis XVIII, and sister-in-law of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. He wrote poetry in praise of the French Revolution, although his enthusiasm quickly faded and he was at one point arrested as a Girondist. He lived long enough to write poetry both in praise of Napoleon and Louis XVIII following the Bourbon Restoration. He succeeded Sautreau de Marsy as editor of the poetry magazine ''Almanach des Muses'' from 1794 until 1820, and replaced Jean-François de La Harpe at the ''Lycée'', but had nowhere near the s ... Louis Vigée
Louis Vigée (2 February 1715 – 9 May 1767) was a French portraitist. He was also a fan painter, artist in pastels and a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc. In 1750, he married Jeanne Maissin Vigée. In 1755, Jeanne gave birth to their first child Élisabeth Louise Vigée (1755–1842), whom became a painter, and in 1758, Jeanne gave birth to their second child Étienne Vigée (1758–1820), whom became a playwright and ''man of letters''.
