Vienna Capitals
The Vienna Capitals are an Austrian professional ice hockey team that participate in the ICE Hockey League. Founded in 2001, the Capitals play their home games in Vienna, Austria, at Steffl Arena. In the 2004–05 season, the Capitals claimed their first Austrian Championship in defeating EC KAC. History The Vienna Capitals were founded in 2001, after the disbandment of Wiener EV in 2000, to continue the legacy of ice hockey which has been present in the federal capital since 1914. They began competition in the EBEL in the 2001–02 season, under coach Kurt Harand. With good performances, they established themselves in mid-table and finished the end of the regular season in fourth place. In the quarterfinals, the Capitals swept the Graz 99ers 4: 0 before losing in a sweep to EHC Linz in the semifinals. Jim Boni
Giacinto "Jim" Boni (born June 4, 1963) is an Italian-Canadian professional ice hockey coach and executive. Playing career Born in Frosinone, Italy and raised in Canada, Boni played professionally in Italy and Germany. He won four Italian championships with HC Bolzano in 1982, 1985, 1988 and 1990. Boni spent the last two years of his career at German third-division team EC Ulm, before retiring in 1998. In 1992, Boni struck fellow player Miran Schrott in the chest with the end of a hockey stick, causing Schrott sudden cardiac death. Boni was charged with culpable homicide, but eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter, and he was ordered to pay restitution to Schrott's family. Coaching and managing career Boni started his career behind the bench at ERC Ingolstadt, where he served as head coach from 1999 to January 2003. North Oaks, Minnesota
North Oaks is an exurban city north of St. Paul in Ramsey County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 4,469 at the 2010 census. Formerly a gated community that now posts private access signage, all land is owned by homeowners with the North Oaks Home Owners Association maintaining all roads, plowing, parks, facilities, and recreation trails. Each homeowner's property extends halfway into the street. There is also a city government with a Mayor and City Council that administers basic services such as fire, police, planning, and licensing. The city owns no property. History Structured around Pleasant Lake, the area began as a water source for the Saint Paul municipal water system, which still maintains water access rights today. 2019–20 Austrian Hockey League Season
The 2019–20 Austrian Hockey League season began on 13 September 2019. The defending champion's are EC KAC. Following the conclusion of his previous season Croatian club, KHL Medveščak Zagreb, announced their withdrawal from the EBEL citing financial difficulties. With the reduction to the 11 team league, the EBEL announced changes in the second round of the season, taking place from 26 January 2020. The placement round will be reduced to a pool of 5 teams, qualifying automatically for the post-season while each playing 8 games for seeding. The bottom placed 6 teams are drawn into the Qualifying round with each team playing 10 games, with the highest 3 ranked clubs advancing to the post-season. The season was prematurely ended on 3 March 2020 due to concerns about the 2020 coronavirus outbreak in Europe. The ICE Hockey League (International Central European Hockey League, ICEHL), known as the win2day ICE Hockey League for sponsorship reasons, is a Central European hockey league that also serves as the top-tier ice hockey league in Austria. It currently features additional teams from Hungary, Italy, and Slovenia. The league was known as the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL) from 2003 until 2020 and as the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League during the 2021–22 season. Until 2005–06, the league consisted solely of Austrian teams. Steffl Arena (former names: Albert Schultz Eishalle and Erste Bank Arena) is an indoor sporting arena located in Vienna, Austria. The arena has a capacity of 7,022 peoplealbertschultzeishalle.atHalle 1 Eissportzentrum Kagran and was opened in January 1995. It underwent major renovations in 2010 and 2011 to increase the capacity from 4,500 to over 7,000. It has three rinks for hockey, figure skating, and public skating and is currently home to the Vienna Capitals ice hockey team. 2011 European Trophy
The 2011 European Trophy was the second European Trophy, a European ice hockey tournament held annually. It was also the sixth tournament since its predecessor, the ''Nordic Trophy'', was launched in 2006. The regulation round began on 11 August 2011 and ended on 6 September 2011. The playoffs, which took place in Austria, were played 16–18 December 2011 in the Eisarena Salzburg in Salzburg, and the Albert Schultz Eishalle in Vienna, at the same time as the 2011 Channel One Cup. The playoff hosts, EC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Salzburg, won the playoffs and captured their first championship title in the European Trophy tournament, having lost in the quarterfinals last year. A significant difference in this year's tournament was that the number of participating teams was increased from 18 to 24.
