Victory Park, Johannesburg
Victory Park is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, around 8 km northwest of City Hall. Victory Park covers 1.6 km², including several smallholdings and a pair of blocks that include the private Judaism, Jewish high school in the King David Schools, Johannesburg, King David Schools network and the Victory Park Hebrew Congregation building. To the north is Delta Park (Johannesburg), Delta Park in Blairgowrie, Gauteng, Blairgowrie, to the northeast is Craighall Park, to the east is Parkhurst, Gauteng, Parkhurst, to the southeast is Greenside, Gauteng, Greenside, to the southwest is Emmarentia, and to the west is Linden, Gauteng, Linden. In the old municipal borders, Victory Park was part of Johannesburg and separated by Linden from Randburg. Victory Park was founded on Braamfontein Farm in January 1919. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Delta Park (Johannesburg)
Delta Park is one of the biggest parks in Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is adjacent to the suburbs of Blairgowrie and Victory Park. It comprises 108 hectares of grassland and woodland, and three tree-lined dams. It has walking trails, a "sensory trail" and bird watching hides. It incorporates the ''Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary'' and the ''Delta Environmental Centre''. Blairgowrie, Gauteng
Blairgowrie is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region B of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. It is named after the town of Blairgowrie in Scotland. The suburb has an active community association called the Blairgowrie Community Association. History Prior to the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand in 1886, the future suburb lay on land on one of the original farms that make up Johannesburg, called ''Klipfontein''. The farm was bought by William Grey Rattray in 1890 and renamed it Craighall. In 1928, his daughter would rename part of the land on the farm after the town Blairgowrie and Rattray in Scotland. Parkhurst is a small, dense northern suburb of Johannesburg, Gauteng, of about 2000 households and 4000 residents. Forming part of the northern suburbs, Parkhurst is roughly bounded by Parktown North to the east, the Braamfontein Spruit to the west, Craighall to the north, and Greenside to the south. Greenside, is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. Greenside borders on the suburbs Emmarentia, Parkview, Parkhurst and Victory Park. History Greenside lies on land that once made up the ''Braamfontein Farm'', one of many large farms that makes what is Johannesburg and its suburbs. The farm land was bought in 1886 by Lourens Geldenhuys for its mining rights as it was hoped that the Confidence Reef would extend into his farm but it did not. Land remained as a farm and by 1891 it was divided, along what is now Orange Road, between his son's Frans and Louw where the brothers had already built two farm houses. Louw Geldenhuys died in 1929 and his wife Emmarentia would begin to sell parts of the farm that became the surrounding suburbs, one of which became Greenside on 4 February 1931 and was surveyed by the Rand Mines Group. History Emmarentia lies on land that once made up the Braamfontein Farm, one of many large farms that make what is Johannesburg and its suburbs.
