Victor Wembanyama
Victor Wembanyama ( ; ; born 4 January 2004), nicknamed "Wemby" and "The Alien", is a French professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Considered one of the best basketball prospects of his generation due to his rare combination of height, length, defense, speed, ball-handling skills, shooting range and agility, he was selected first overall by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft. Wembanyama began his professional career at age 15 with Nanterre 92 of the LNB Pro A in 2019. Two years later, he moved to ASVEL and won the Pro A title in his only season with the team. In the 2022–23 season, Wembanyama signed with Metropolitans 92 and became the youngest player to win the Pro A MVP award, while earning Pro A Best Defender honours and leading the league in scoring, rebounds and blocks. Metropolitans 92
Metropolitans 92 is a French professional basketball club that is based in Levallois-Perret, in the Paris metropolitan area. The club currently plays in the LNB Pro A, the French basketball league system, highest-tier level in French basketball. The club was established in 2007, as Paris-Levallois Basket. Its home arena is the Palais des sports Marcel-Cerdan, which has a seating capacity of 4,000 people. The 2022–23 Pro A season, known as Betclic Élite due to sponsorship from online gambling company Betclic, was the 101st season of the Pro A, the top basketball league in France organised by the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB). FIBA U16 European Championship
The FIBA U16 EuroBasket is the new name for the FIBA U16 European Championship, originally known as the FIBA European Championship for Cadets. It's a men's youth basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1971 edition. Through the 2003 edition, it was held every second year, but since the 2004 edition onward, it is held every year. The FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup (formerly FIBA Under-19 World Championship) is the under-19 men's world basketball championship organised by the FIBA, International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Basketball at the Summer Olympics has been a sport for men consistently since 1936. Prior to its inclusion as a medal sport, basketball was held as an unofficial demonstration event in 1904 and 1924. Women's basketball made its debut in the Summer Olympics in 1976.
