Vicenç Badalona Ballestar
Vicenç Badalona Ballestar (1929 – 7 July 2014) was a Spanish painter and author. Life and work Vicenç Badalona Ballestar, born in 1929, studied at the School of Art at La Lotja and at Baixas Academy in Barcelona. Among the best known works of Ballestar are certainly his titles to images for the Dime novels series called John Sinclair. Over the decades he has also created numerous other designs and illustrations, including for the Western bestselling series GF Unger, another imprint of the German '' Bastei Lübbe'' publishing house. Dime Novel
The dime novel is a form of late 19th-century and early 20th-century American popular fiction issued in series of inexpensive paperbound editions. The term ''dime novel'' has been used as a catchall term for several different but related forms, referring to story papers, five- and ten-cent weeklies, "thick book" reprints, and sometimes early pulp magazines.The English equivalents were generally called penny dreadfuls or shilling shockers. The German and French equivalents were called "Groschenromane" and "livraisons à dix centimes", respectively. American firms also issued foreign editions of many of their works, especially as series characters came into vogue. John Sinclair (German Fiction)
John Sinclair is a fictional character and the protagonist of a popular German horror detective series (of the dime novel or penny dreadful variety). The full title is ''Geisterjäger John Sinclair'', (lit. ''Ghost Hunter John Sinclair''), and the official English title is ''John Sinclair: Demon Hunter''. The long-running series has been ongoing since 1973 and is released weekly since 1978. In the stories, Scotland Yard chief inspector John Sinclair battles all kinds of undead and demonic creatures, such as vampires, witches, ghouls, and Werewolf, werewolves. While falling into the category of 'Pulp magazine, pulp fiction', the ongoing series is yet remarkable for the relatively wide range of its vocabulary and the inventiveness of its plots. Bastei Lübbe is a major publisher of genre fiction, pulp fiction and non-fiction in the German language. It is based in Cologne, Germany. In 2010, it was the largest independent book publisher in Germany, and it claimed to be one of the three largest audiobook publishers in Germany.
