Veľký Krtíš District (''okres Veľký Krtíš'') is a district in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. Districts Of Slovakia
The districts of Slovakia are administrative units known as in the Slovak language. It is a second-tier territorial administrative unit, below a Region () in standing, and superior to a municipality (). Each district contains at least several municipalities. The cities of Bratislava and Košice are the only cities in Slovakia divided into internal urban districts, with five in Bratislava, and four in Košice. These urban districts are then further divided into smaller boroughs (which serve a function analogous to municipalities in typical districts). All other districts are larger in size and also include rural areas, and rural as well as urban municipalities. Each of these more typical districts has an urban centre serving as the seat of the district, usually the largest town (or the only town) of a given district. Čebovce
Čebovce () is a village in the Veľký Krtíš District of the Banská Bystrica Region of southern Slovakia. History This Hungarian village was first mentioned in 1240 (as ''Chab''). Prior to the First Mongol invasion of Hungary, Mongol invasion of Hungary of 1241-42, the village was known as ''Györgymártonfalva'', which was destroyed in the Mongol-Tatar invasion. The original surviving inhabitants moved further down the valley. Local legend states that the most common name in the village 'Balga' (meaning 'foolish' in Hungarian) originates from the original local populace feeling 'foolish' for being seduced from giving up the original, well naturally fortified hill-village of Györgymártonfalva for the beautiful valley of Csáb, however this is only local myth. Glabušovce
Glabušovce () is a village and municipality in southern Slovakia. It is located in the Veľký Krtíš District of the Banská Bystrica Region. History In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1297. Then known as Galabuch, it belonged to many feudatories, including Kacsics, Prónyai and Beney. In 1554, Glabušovce was completely destroyed by the Ottoman Turks, who dominated the area from 1554 to 1594. From 1938 to 1945, it was controlled by Hungary. Ďurkovce () is a village and municipality in the Veľký Krtíš District of the Banská Bystrica Region of southern Slovakia. History In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1262 (1262 ''Gurky'', 1351 ''Gyiörk'', 1381 ''Gyurk, Gyurki''). In 1351, it belonged to Vinica town and, successively, to nobles Gyürkiy, a local feudatory family, Teleky and Majthény. In the 16th century, it was destroyed by Turks. Dolné Strháre () is a village and municipality in the Veľký Krtíš District of the Banská Bystrica Region of southern Slovakia. History In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1244 (1244 ''Stergar'', 1247 ''Strugar'', 1243 ''Estergur, Vzturgar'', 1260 ''Strogar''), as a royal dominion. Dolná Strehová () is a village and municipality in the Veľký Krtíš District of the Banská Bystrica Region of southern Slovakia. Etymology The name comes from Slavic ''strъg-'', ''strěg-'': to watch, to guard. 1245 ''de villa Stregowa'', 1250 ''Stregoa'', 1310 ''de Strigua'', 1349 ''poss. Stregoua'', 1393 ''Ztregua'', 1461 ''Stregwa'', 1487 ''Ztrehowa'', 1808 sk. ''Dolnj Střehowá'', hu. ''Asló-Sztregova'' and sk. ''Hornj Střehowá'', hu. ''Felső-Sztregova''. History The village belonged to many feudatory families. In 1534 it passed to Léva town (today Levice, Slovakia). In the 18th century it belonged to the Esterházy family. History It arose in 1943 with the union of Dolný (first mention in 1511 ''Lam Inferior'') and Horný Dačov Lom (first mention in 1333 ''Lom'').
