Vex Red
Vex Red are a musical ensemble, band from Aldershot, England who merge hard rock with electronica. History 1995-2003: Early years and ''Start with a Strong and Persistent Desire'' Vex Red formed in 1995 in Aldershot, United Kingdom. The band self released two demo records in the late 1990s one titled "Vex Red" released in 1998 and the second "Sleep Does Nothing for You" the following year. Original band members were Sean Buckingham, Anthony Forbes, Keith Lambert, Nick Goulding and Dan Rice. In 1999 the band fired Buckingham and recruited vocalist and guitarist Terry Abbott to complete the line up. Entering into a demo tape competition by Kerrang! and Ross Robinson the band were quickly signed to Robinson's Virgin Records imprint, I Am. In 2001 the band released their first single "Itch". ''Start with a Strong and Persistent Desire'' is the debut album by English alternative rock band Vex Red. It was released on 4 March 2002 through I Am records. The album charted at number 48 on the UK Albums Chart and also spent two weeks on the chart. Two singles were released from the album. "Itch" was released in 2001, followed by "Can't Smile" in 2002 which reached number 45 in the UK Singles Chart. The album was produced by nu metal producer Ross Robinson, who also signed the band to his Virgin Records imprint "I Am" in the early 2000s Critical reception Critical reception to the album was positive upon release. Meltdown is an annual festival held in London, featuring a mix of music, art, performance and film. Meltdown is held in June at Southbank Centre, the arts complex covering and including the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Hayward. Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician who is the co-founder, lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the Cure, a post-punk rock band formed in 1976. His guitar-playing style, singing voice, and fashion sense, often sporting a pale complexion, smeared red lipstick, black eye-liner, unkempt wiry black hair, and all-black clothes, were highly influential on the goth subculture that rose to prominence in the 1980s. Hell Is for Heroes are an English post-hardcore band from London. Founder members Will McGonagle and Joe Birch (previously of Symposium) were joined by James Findlay, Tom O'Donoghue and later Justin Schlosberg. The band played their formative shows in West London throughout 2001. After two independently released singles, Hell Is for Heroes released their debut album in February 2003 on EMI. '' The Neon Handshake'' was produced and recorded in Los Angeles at Sound City Studios and mixed in Umeå, Sweden at Tonteknik by Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Lövström. The band's A&R was managed by Duncan Illing. The band and their A&R left EMI in 2004.
