Alena Veselá
Alena Veselá (married name Štěpánková; 7 July 1923 – 11 May 2025) was a Czech organist and academic music teacher, rector of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno from 1990 to 1997. She played concerts internationally. Life and career Veselá was born in Brno on 7 July 1923. Her parents were Vítězslav Veselý, a professor of chemistry and his wife Helena; she grew up with a brother, Karel. Her first piano teacher was Zdeňka Illnerová. Veselá studied organ at the Brno Conservatoire during World War II. She studied further at the newly established Brno Janáček Academy of Music (JAMU) from 1947. She studied musicology at the Masaryk University in Brno. From 1952, she worked for almost fifty years at the Academy where she was the head of the department of keyboard instruments from 1986 to 1990 and rector from 1990 to 1997. Vítězslav Veselý () (born 27 February 1983) is a Czech javelin thrower. He won two bronze medals at the Olympic games, in 2012 and 2020. Career He finished ninth at the 2002 World Junior Championships. He threw a personal best throw of 81.20 metres during the qualifying round at the 2008 Olympic Games and finished twelfth in the final. He was less successful at his first World Championships in Athletics the following year, failing to make the final with a throw of 75.76 m. Veselý improved his personal best by more than five metres at a meeting in Olomouc in May 2010, throwing a world leading mark of 86.45 m. He was ninth at the 2010 European Athletics Championships that year. He came close to a major medal with a fourth-place finish at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. Timothy Warren Vesely (born 10 December 1963) is a Canadian musician and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of the indie rock band Rheostatics, in which he shared vocal duties with bandmates Dave Bidini and Martin Tielli.
