Velimeşe
Velimeşe is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Ergene, Tekirdağ Province, Turkey. Its population is 11,420 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde'') in the district of Çorlu. Geography Velimeşe is situated in East Thrace (the European part of Turkey) to the north of Çorlu Creek (a tributary of the river Ergene) and O.3 motorway which connects Istanbul to Kapıkule at the Bulgarian border. The distance to Çorlu is to Tekirdağ is and to Istanbul is . History In the 19th century in the place of the town there was a public farm used for military training. The name of the farm was ''Velipaşa'' referring an Ottoman pasha. After the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) Turkish refugees from Bulgaria and Serbia were settled in the farm and the settlement was named as Velimeşe. Ergene is a municipality and district of Tekirdağ Province, Turkey. Its area is 418 km2, and its population is 67,038 (2022). The district and municipality Ergene was created at the 2013 Turkish local government reorganisation from part of the district of Çorlu, including the former municipalities Marmaracık, Ulaş, Misinli and Velimeşe. Otoyol 3
Otoyol 3 (), also known as the European Motorway () and abbreviated as the O-3 is a long otoyol in East Thrace, Turkey. The O-3 runs from Edirne to Istanbul and is the only motorway in Turkey located entirely in Europe. The motorway begins west of Edirne at "Edirne Batı K1" junction with the State road D.100 (Turkey), D.100 where it then continues as a beltway passing just north of Edirne. From there, the motorway passes through mostly rural farmland until it enters the Istanbul metropolis near Silivri. The eastern end of O-3 ends at the Istanbul Bağcılar "Mahmutbey Batı K20" Junction. Kapıkule
Kapıkule is the name of the Turkish border crossing point in Edirne Province on the border of Turkey and Bulgaria. Its counterpart on the Bulgarian side is Kapitan Andreevo. Together, they form the busiest land border crossing point in Europe. Kapıkule, situated on the State road D100 (D.100) and European route E80, is also an important gateway for cargo transport to the countries east of Turkey. The Asian Highway Network route AH1 terminates at the border. Other land border checkpoints in western Turkey are the neighboring Hamzabeyli (on the D.535) and Dereköy (on the D.555) to Bulgaria and İpsala (on the D.110, E84) to Greece. Second Balkan War
The Second Balkan War was a conflict that broke out when Kingdom of Bulgaria, Bulgaria, dissatisfied with its share of the spoils of the First Balkan War, attacked its former allies, Kingdom of Serbia, Serbia and Kingdom of Greece, Greece, on 16 (Old Style, O.S.) / 29 (N.S.) Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878)
