Vasile Mândrescu
__NOTOC__ Vasile Mândrescu (born 1888, Bogzesti, Orgeyevsky Uyezd, Basarabia Governorate, Russian Empire – d. 20th century) was a Bessarabian politician, member of the Land Council of the Moldovan Democratic Republic. Biography He served as Member of the Moldovan Parliament (1917–1918). He was one of the members of the County Council who voted for the Union of Bessarabia with Romania in the session of 27 March 1918. Orgeyevsky Uyezd
Orgeyevsky County () was an uezd, one of the subdivisions of the Bessarabia Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the central part of the governorate. Its administrative centre was Orhei. Demographics At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Orgeyevsky Uyezd had a population of 213,478. The Bessarabia Governorate was a province (''guberniya'') of the Russian Empire, with its administrative centre in Kishinev (Chișinău). It consisted of an area of and a population of 1,935,412 inhabitants. The Bessarabia Governorate bordered the Podolia Governorate to the north, the Kherson Governorate to the east, the Black Sea to the south, Kingdom of Romania, Romania to the west, and Austria-Hungary, Austria to the northwest. It roughly corresponds to what is now most of Moldova and some parts of Chernivtsi Oblast, Chernivtsi and Odesa Oblast, Odesa Oblasts of Ukraine. Bessarabia () is a historical region in Eastern Europe, bounded by the Dniester river on the east and the Prut river on the west. About two thirds of Bessarabia lies within modern-day Moldova, with the Budjak region covering the southern coastal region and part of the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Oblast covering a small area in the north. Union Of Bessarabia With Romania
The union of Bessarabia with Romania was proclaimed on by Sfatul Țării, the legislative body of the Moldavian Democratic Republic. This state had the same borders of the region of Bessarabia, which was annexed by the Russian Empire following the Treaty of Bucharest (1812), Treaty of Bucharest of 1812 and organized first as an ''Oblast'' (autonomous until 1828) and later as a Bessarabia Governorate, Governorate. Under Russian rule, many of the native Tatars were expelled from parts of Bessarabia and replaced with Moldavians, Wallachians, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Russians, Lipovans, Cossacks, Gagauzes and other peoples, although colonization was not limited to formerly Tatar-inhabited lands.
