Vasile Hegheduș (born 10 March 1979) is a Romanian former weightlifter. He competed in the men's middleweight event at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He finished 20th at the 1999 World Championships, 8th at the 2001 World Championships, seventh at the 2002 World Championships, 12th at the 2003 World Championships and no-marked at the 2004 European Championships. Olympic Weightlifting
Weightlifting (often known as Olympic weightlifting) is a competitive strength athletics, strength sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with the aim of successfully lifting the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead. The ''Snatch (weightlifting), snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the ''clean''), and then from the shoulders to over the head (the ''jerk''). The sport formerly included a third lift/event known as clean and press. Each weightlifter gets three attempts at both the snatch and the clean and jerk, with the snatch attempted first. Weightlifting At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's 77 Kg
The men's 77 kilograms weightlifting event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece took place at the Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall on 19 August. Total score was the sum of the lifter's best result in each of the snatch (weightlifting), snatch and the clean and jerk, with three lifts allowed for each lift. In case of a tie, the lighter lifter won; if still tied, the lifter who took the fewest attempts to achieve the total score won. Lifters without a valid snatch score did not perform the clean and jerk. On 12 February 2013, the International Olympic Committee decided to strip Oleg Perepetchenov of his 2004 Olympic bronze medal after both probes were retested and showed traces of anabolic steroids.
