Varick is a town in Seneca County, New York, United States. The population was 1,639 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Richard Varick, an officer in the American Revolution, mayor of New York City, and uncle of the first Town Supervisor, Anthony Dey. The Town of Varick is located in the central part of the county and is southeast of Geneva. There is no post office in the Town of Varick. The primary postal district covering the area is Zip Code 14541 for Romulus.

Varick Street
__NOTOC__ Varick Street runs north–south primarily in the Hudson Square district of Lower Manhattan in New York City, United States. Varick Street's northern terminus is in the West Village, where it is a continuation of Seventh Avenue South south of Clarkson Street. It continues downtown through Hudson Square and TriBeCa until it reaches Leonard Street, where it merges with West Broadway. Motor traffic is one-way southbound. Major east–west streets crossed include Houston Street and Canal Street. Approaching Broome Street, the two rightmost lanes of Varick Street are reserved for traffic entering the Holland Tunnel, where backups often occur at rush hour. History Varick Street is named for Richard Varick, an early New York lawmaker and the mayor of New York City from 1789 to 1801, who owned property in the area. Colony Of New York
The Province of New York (1664–1776) was a British proprietary colony and later royal colony on the northeast coast of North America. As one of the Middle Colonies, New York achieved independence and worked with the others to found the United States. In 1664, the Dutch Province of New Netherland in America was awarded by Charles II of England to his brother James, Duke of York. James raised a fleet to take it from the Dutch and the Governor surrendered to the English fleet without recognition from the Dutch West Indies Company that had authority over it. The province was renamed for the Duke of York, as its proprietor. England seized ''de facto'' control of the colony from the Dutch in 1664, and was given ''de jure'' sovereign control in 1667 in the Treaty of Breda and again in the Treaty of Westminster (1674). James Varick
James Varick was the first Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Biography James Varick was born near Newburgh, New York, on January 10, 1750. His mother was possibly a slave of the Varicks, or Van Varicks. His father, Richard Varick, was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, where he was baptized in the Dutch Church. The family lived in New York City while James Varick was young, where he acquired an elementary education in New York schools. For many years, he worked as a shoemaker and later as a tobacco cutter to support himself and his family, because the church with which he was associated did not pay its preachers. About 1790, he married Aurelia Jones. The couple had four sons and three daughters. The important events in Varick's life were associated with his religious avocation. Richard Varick
Richard Varick (March 15, 1753 – July 30, 1831) was an American lawyer, military officer, and politician who has been referred to as "The Forgotten Founding Father." A major figure in the development of post-Independence New York City and State, Varick became the List of mayors of New York City, 45th Mayor of New York City in 1789 and served eleven consecutive one-year terms until 1801. Previous to his terms as mayor, Varick served as the Recorder of New York City, 14th Recorder of New York City from 1784 to 1789. An office that no longer exists, it equates to 'Chief Legal Officer'. Along with Samuel Jones (New York comptroller), Samuel Jones, Varick codified New York State's first statutes after Revolution in the Laws of New York (2 vols., 1789). This body of work laid legal groundwork for Varick to institute the Law of New York, the New York City Administrative Code, and the Rules of New York City during his terms as mayor.
