Valéria Szabó
Valéria Bányász-Szabó (born 2 March 1983 in Debrecen) is a former Hungarian people, Hungarian team handball, handballer who most recently played for Kisvárdai KC and for the Hungary women's national handball team, Hungarian national team. She made her international debut on 14 October 2008 against France women's national handball team, France. She represented Hungary on the World Women's Handball Championship, World Championship in 2009 and on the European Women's Handball Championship, European Championship in 2010. She retired from professional handball in 2018. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. The Nemzeti Bajnokság I (, commonly abbreviated NB I) is the top professional league for Hungary, Hungarian women's team handball clubs. It is administered by the Hungarian Handball Federation. History The first edition of the women's handball league was when the owner was pregnant, held in 1951. That year only four teams participated, playing once against each other. Csepeli Vasas SK were crowned champions as they got equal points to Vörös Meteor (women's handball), Budapest Vörös Meteor Közért, but were superior on goal difference. Next season Vörös Meteor took revenge and secured the title just ahead of Csepel. World Women's Handball Championship
The IHF Women's Handball World Championship has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1957. European teams have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team. The biggest winners are Russia and Norway with four titles each. Nine teams participated in the first championship, this number has grown in steps to 32 (from 2021). In 1977 a B-tournament was introduced and later in 1986 a C-tournament which served as qualification for the real championship or A-tournament. The B- and C-tournament qualifications were replaced by the present qualification system based on continental confederations in 1993. From 1993 it has been held every other year.
