Biggar, Saskatchewan
Biggar is a town in central Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located on Highway 14, west of Saskatoon, the province's most populous city. Biggar has become well known for its unusual town slogan, an Olympic athlete, and a world-record deer. The town was featured on American morning newsmagazine '' The Today Show'' in February 2010 as part of an ongoing Canadian-oriented segment during the 2010 Winter Olympics. History Biggar was incorporated as a village in 1909. It was named after William Hodgins Biggar, general counsel of the Grand Trunk Pacific (GTP) railway which had come through the area in 1908. Prior to that, the major means of transportation was via the nearby Swift Current-Battleford Trail. The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (GTP) made Biggar a divisional point on its line, building a large station and roundhouse. Rosetown, Saskatchewan
Rosetown is a town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, at the junction of provincial Highway 7 and Highway 4, approximately 115 km southwest of Saskatoon. The town's motto, "The Heart of the Wheat Belt" reflects its history of being a farming community. A referendum was held in 2001, spearheaded by resident Teneal Crossman, to change the motto to “The Heart of the Meat Belt” to reflect the booming beef industry. The motto remained unchanged in a landslide vote supporting the original motto and Crossman soon left town. It is the largest town located in the ''Rural Municipality St. Andrew's 287, Saskatchewan''. Rosetown belongs currently to the federal electoral district of Saskatoon—Rosetown—Biggar which was formerly known as Saskatoon—Rosetown. Bents, Saskatchewan
Bents is an unincorporated community in Marriott No. 317, Saskatchewan, Canada. Prior to the town founding, the area was referred to as Piche. Bents took its name from Longniddry Bents in Scotland. Its derelict wooden grain elevator was once the subject of a National Geographic photograph. The remnants of the town are now located on private property. History Bents was officially established in 1930 along a CPR rail line that ran between Perdue and Rosetown. The railway came through the area in 1929 and at one point Bents boasted several residential homes, a small train station, two grain elevators, a dance hall, a general store (Longworth’s General Store) and post office - all along a single street. By the 1960s the town began an irreversible decline when the southern section of the rail line was abandoned.
