Valentīna Eiduka
Valentīna Eiduka (12 March 1937 - 19 November 2023) was a Latvian javelin thrower. She was the coach of several notable Latvian javelin throwers, including Olympic medalists Vadims Vasiļevskis and Ainārs Kovals. Her personal best throw is 52.97 metres, achieved in 1964. During her career she became an eight-time Latvian SSR champion in javelin throw. In 2006 and 2008 she was voted the Latvian Coach of the year. In 2008, she also received the fourth rank Order of the Three Stars. She has been coaching Olympic medalists Vadims Vasiļevskis and Ainārs Kovals, as well as the current junior world record holder Zigismunds Sirmais, Sinta Ozoliņa-Kovala, Inga Kožarenoka. Formerly she also coached Voldemārs Lūsis Voldemārs Lūsis (born 7 December 1974 in Riga) is a former Latvian Athletics (sport), athlete, who competed in the javelin throw. Javelin Throw
The javelin throw is a track and field event where the javelin, a spear about in length, is thrown as far as possible. The javelin thrower gains momentum by running within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing is an event of both the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. History The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. It included two events, one for distance and the other for accuracy in hitting a target. The javelin was thrown with the aid of a thong (''Amentum, ankyle'' in Greek) that was wound around the middle of the shaft. Athletes held the javelin by the ''ankyle'', a leather strap around the shaft, so when they released the javelin, the unwinding of the thong gave the javelin a spiral trajectory. Jānis Lūsis
Jānis Lūsis (19 May 1939 – 29 April 2020) was a Latvian track and field athlete who competed in javelin throw. Biography Lūsis trained at Daugava Voluntary Sports Society and later at Armed Forces sports society. He competed in four Summer Olympics for the USSR team, winning bronze in 1964 Olympics, gold in 1968 Olympics and silver in 1972 Olympics. The javelin competition at the 1972 Games was the closest in Olympic history. Germany's Klaus Wolfermann had taken the lead from Lūsis in the fifth round with an Olympic Record throw of 90.48 meters. Voldemārs Lūsis (born 7 December 1974 in Riga) is a former Latvian Athletics (sport), athlete, who competed in the javelin throw. He is the son of Jānis Lūsis (1939–2020) and Elvīra Ozoliņa. Order Of The Three Stars
Order of the Three Stars () is the highest civilian order awarded for meritorious service to Latvia. It was established in 1924 in remembrance of the founding of Latvia. Its motto is ''Per aspera ad astra'', meaning "Through hardships towards the stars". The Order has five ranks and three grades of medals of honour. Inga Kožarenoka (born 16 March 1982 in Saldus) is a javelin thrower from Latvia. Her personal best throw is 59.97 metres, achieved in June 2005 in Murjani. At the time it became Latvian record. Sinta Ozoliņa-Kovala
Sinta Ozoliņa-Kovala (born 26 February 1988) is a Latvian javelin thrower. She was the 2007 European Junior silver medalist. She competed for Latvia at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. Career Ozoliņa-Kovala was one of many Latvian javelin throwers coached by Valentīna Eiduka. In 2006, she competed at the World Junior Championships, reached the final and finished in sixth place. She won the silver medal at the 2007 European Junior Championships, finishing second only to Ukraine's Vira Rebryk. In 2008, Ozoliņa-Kovala made her first appearance at the Summer Olympics. During the javelin throw qualification, she set a new Latvian record in javelin throw – 60.13m. This result also gave her a spot in the final, as that result was the twelfth best on the night.
