Valby () is one of the 10 official Districts of Copenhagen, districts of Copenhagen Municipality, Denmark. It is in the southwestern corner of Copenhagen Municipality, and has a mixture of different types of housing. This includes apartment blocks, terraced housing, areas with single-family houses and allotment (gardening), allotments, plus the remaining part of the old Valby village, around which the district has formed, intermingled with past and present industrial sites. Valby Bakke, Valby Hill marks the boundary between Valby and the more central and urban neighbouring Vesterbro, Copenhagen, Vesterbro district. The expression "west of Valby Hill" is in Danish often used as a metonym for "the provinces" or "outside Copenhagen". Valby Langgade
Valby Langgade is one of the main streets of the Valby district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The c. 3.2 km long street runs from the southern end of Pile Allé and the Carlsberg (district), Carlsberg neighbourhood in the east to Roskildevej at Damhussøen, Damhus Lake in the west. The square and side street Valby Tingsted was the centre of the original village of Valby. History The street is part of the old main road between Copenhagen's Western Gate (Copenhagen), Western Gate and Roskilde. The road made a detour by way of the village of Valby to avoid the steepest part of Valby Hill. Today's side street Skolegade was the first part of the road to Køge. Frederiksberg Palace was built on the top of the hill in the 1700s. The gardens of the new royal summer retreat reached all the way to Valby Langgade. Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the region of Copenhagen. It occupies an area of less than 9 km2 and had a population of 103,192 in 2015. It is the most densely populated municipality in denmark. Frederiksberg is an enclave surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality. The former Diocese of Roskilde () was a diocese within the Roman-Catholic Church which was established in Denmark some time before 1022. The diocese was dissolved with the Reformation of Denmark and replaced by the Protestant Diocese of Zealand in 1537. Valdemar I Knudsen (14 January 1131 – 12 May 1182), also known as Valdemar the Great (), was King of Denmark from 1154 until his death in 1182. The reign of King Valdemar I saw the rise of Denmark, which reached its medieval zenith under his son King Valdemar II. Childhood Valdemar was the son of Canute Lavard, Duke of Schleswig, the chivalrous and popular eldest son of King Eric I of Denmark. Utterslev is a neighbourhood in the Bispebjerg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Utterslev is centered on Utterslev Torv (Utterslev Square) and is most known for the Utterslev Mose marshland which straddles the border with Gladsaxe Municipality to the north. History In the Middle Ages Utterslev was a large country estate comprising the villages of Serridslev, Solbjerg, Vanløse, Vigerslev, Valby, Brønshøj and Emdrup. Damhussøen
Damhus Lake ( or ') is a lake located just north of Roskildevej, between Rødovre, Vanløse and Frederiksberg, on the western outskirts of inner Copenhagen, Denmark. Damhus Meadow (), once a part of the lake, is located on the north side of the lake. History Damhus Lake is an artificial lake which was created some time during the Middle Ages when a dam was built on Harrestrup River (Harrestrup Ã…). Harrestrup Ã…
Harrestrup Å is an approximately 20 km long stream through the western suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It rises at Harrestrup Mose in Vestskoven woodland on the border between Albertslund and Ballerup and flows through Damhus Lake and several parks on its way to the Øresund at Kalvebod Beach in Valby Park. Course The stream rises at Mønterne/Herstedhøje just south of Harrestrup Mose and this first, short section is called Rogrøften. Harrestrup Mose is also fed by Ballerup-Skovlunde Skolerende from the north and Bymoserenden from the south. Harrestrup Å then flows east and is joined by Sømose Å from the north before passing under the Vestvolden on its way to the Kagsmose bog which is also fed by Kagsmose Å from the north. Amager
Amager ( ), located in the Øresund, is Denmark's most densely populated island, with more than 216,000 inhabitants (January 2022). Hvidovre Municipality
Hvidovre Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in the Capital Region near Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark.
