Valberg is a village in Vestvågøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located on the southern shore of the island of Vestvågøya, about northeast (across the fjord) from Stamsund and about northeast of the town of Leknes. Valberg Church is located in the village. Valberg Municipality
Valberg is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1927 until 1963. The municipality covered the southeastern coast of the island of Vestvågøya in what is now Vestvågøy Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Valberg where Valberg Church is located. Prior to its dissolution in 1963, the municipality was the 593rd largest by area out of the 705 municipalities in Norway. Valberg Church
Valberg Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vestvågøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Valberg on the island of Vestvågøya. It is the church for the Valberg parish which is part of the Lofoten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1889 using plans drawn up by the architect Andreas Grenstad. The church seats about 280 people. History The first church at Valberg was built around 1660 on a site near the present church site (but not the same site). It shared a priest with Buksnes Church until 1740 when it was transferred to the Borge prestegjeld (parish). In 1749, the church was destroyed during a powerful storm. Leknes () is a town in Vestvågøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of Vestvågøy Municipality (with 11,619 inhabitants, it is the most populous municipality in Lofoten and Vesterålen). Leknes was designated a "town" () in 2002. The town has a population (2023) of 3,763 and a population density of . The town is situated in the geographical middle of the Lofoten archipelago on the island of Vestvågøya. It is approximately west of the town of Svolvær and east of the village of Å in Moskenes Municipality. Vestvågøya (or less-commonly: ''Vest-Vågøy'') is an island in the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. The island is located within Vestvågøy Municipality. The island lies between the islands of Austvågøya and Gimsøya to the northeast and Flakstadøya to the southwest. There are also several small islands and skerries surrounding the island. Vestvågøya makes up over 97% of the municipal area and about 99% of the inhabitants of the municipality live on the island.
