VALO-CD
VALO-CD, a distribution of open-source software on a CD for Microsoft Windows, aims to spread knowledge and the use of open-source software. VALO-CD originates from Finland, and was originally available only in Finnish. Since version 7, an international version of VALO-CD has also been available in English. The acronym ''VALO'' means "Free/Libre Open-Source Software" in Finnish. is also a Finnish word that means "light". Therefore the name of the project has a connotation of bringing enlightenment. The Finnish version of VALO-CD had the special goal of concentrating on completely localized open-source software. The project started in 2008, and aims to support technological and economic development in Finland. Evince (), also known as GNOME Document Viewer, is a Free and open-source software, free and open-source document viewer supporting many document file formats including Portable Document Format, PDF, PostScript, DjVu, Tagged Image File Format, TIFF, Open XML Paper Specification, XPS and Device independent file format, DVI. OpenDisc
The OpenDisc project offered a selection of high quality open source software on a disc for Microsoft Windows users. The aims of the project were "to provide a free alternative to costly software, with equal or often better quality equivalents to proprietary, shareware or freeware software for Microsoft Windows", and "to educate users of Linux as an operating system for home, business and educational use". The project was created in September 2007 by former OpenCD project lead Chris Gray, who cited numerous difficulties which he believed were negatively affecting the progress of the Canonical-sponsored project. As of 27 September 2007, the OpenCD project is no longer under active development (the former OpenCD project was replaced by OpenDisc). OpenCD
The OpenCD project is a discontinued open-source project aimed to introduce users of Microsoft Windows to the benefits of free and open-source software (FOSS). It is a CD image that can freely be downloaded and copied. The OpenCD team screened programs for stability, quality, and ease of installation, and only distributed programs available under an OSI-approved open-source license, which allows users to freely use and distribute the disc as they wish. It was sponsored by Canonical Ltd., for a period. The project was started in April 2002 in response to an article on linux.com by astrophysics student Henrik Nilsen Omma. FLOSS Manuals
The FLOSS Manuals (FM) is a non-profit foundation founded in 2006 by Adam Hyde and based in the Netherlands. The foundation is focused on the creation of quality documentation about how to use free software. Its web site is a wiki (previously using the TWiki and Booki programs, now using Booktype) focused on the collaborative authoring of manuals. The documentation is licensed under the GPL. Although initially the manuals were covered by the GFDL, the material was relicensed to the GPL due to concerns about the limitations of the GFDL. Anyone can contribute to the material at FLOSS Manuals. Each manual has a maintainer – very much like the Debian maintainer system. PDFCreator
PDFCreator is an application for converting documents into Portable Document Format (PDF) format on Microsoft Windows operating systems. It works by creating a virtual printer that prints to PDF files, and thereby allows practically any application to create PDF files by choosing to print from within the application and then printing to the PDFCreator printer. It was first released in Germany in 2004. In addition to PDFCreator Free, there are three business editions with additional features: PDFCreator Professional, PDFCreator Server and PDFCreator Terminal Server. Since 2009, PDFCreator has included closed source adware, toolbars and other software that is installed by default.
