History The University of Sousse was created in 2004 from a division of the University of the Center, which had been created in 1991 from the University of Monastir. The University of the Center had grown rapidly from 45,000 students in 2001-2002 to nearly 60,000 in 2003–2004 in 30 institutions. Sousse or Soussa ( ar, سوسة, ; Berber:''Susa'') is a city in Tunisia, capital of the Sousse Governorate. Located south of the capital Tunis, the city has 271,428 inhabitants (2014). Sousse is in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. Hamadi Jebali ( ar, حمادي الجبالي, '; born 12 January 1949) is a Tunisian engineer, Muslim politician and journalist who was Prime Minister of Tunisia from December 2011 to March 2013.
