Ulefoss is the administrative centre of Nome municipality in Telemark, Norway, located near the border of Grenland. Its population is 2,699. It occupies both sides of Ulefoss falls on the river Eidselva. Ulefoss is one of Norway's oldest industrial communities, with sawmills operating from the 1400s, and mining and ironworks from the 1600s. It is still largely an industrial site, with a number of people employed in the iron foundry and mechanical industries. Ulefoss has primary school, lower secondary, and upper secondary school Søve. A variety of shops and restaurants, a library and culture centre are also located here. Øvre Verket is a group of old workers' dwellings; today a culture and crafts exhibition. Nome, Norway
Nome is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is a part of the traditional region of Midt-Telemark and historically of Grenland region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Ulefoss. The municipality of Nome was created on 1 January 1964 when the two former municipalities of Holla and Lunde were merged. Nome consists of a number of villages including Lunde, Ulefoss, Helgen, Flåbygd, and Svenseid. The area of the farmlands is 26.8 square kilometers (as of 2013); barley is farmed on 4.9 sq.kilometers. Eidselva lies in Nome municipality in Vestfold og Telemark County, Norway. It rises in Flåvatn, and runs into Norsjø in Ulefoss. The river is part of Skiensvassdraget, and an important part of the Telemark Canal. On the stretch from Ulefoss to Flåvatn there are six sluices (14 sluicegates), with a total rise of around . Kanalen
''Kanalen'' (The Canal) is a local Norwegian newspaper published in Ulefoss in Telemark county. History ''Kanalen'' was established by Jan Arve Andersen in 2001, and it has covered events in the municipality of Nome since 2012; prior to this it also covered news in the municipality of Sauherad. It is currently edited by Tor Espen Simonsen. From 2003 to 2012 the newspaper was completely owned by the newspaper ''Varden''. The paper's employees currently hold the majority of shares in the company. The name ''Kanalen'' is derived from the Telemark Canal. The waterway and its locks run across the municipality of Nome and help link together the two largest urban areas, Ulefoss and Lunde. The newspaper serves the same purpose as a channel for media. Telemark
Telemark is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. The Telemark Museum is a museum in Telemark, Norway. It includes several buildings across Telemark and is headquartered in Kleiva in the older part of Skien in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. Grenland
Grenland is a traditional district in the county of Vestfold og Telemark, in the south-east of Norway. Located in the southeastern part of the county, Grenland is composed of the municipalities Skien, Porsgrunn, Bamble, and Siljan. Sometimes the municipalities Kragerø and Drangedal of the smaller Vestmar region are also considered to be part of the area. The region encompasses 1,794 km2 and has 122,978 inhabitants (2004), which translates as 12% of the area and 64% of the population of Telemark.
