Uyo is the capital city, capital of Akwa Ibom state located in South South, Nigeria. It became the capital on September 23, 1987 when Akwa Ibom was created from the former Cross River State. According to the 2006 Nigerian Census, the population of Uyo (including Itu, Nigeria, Itu) is 427,873, while the greater urban area, including Uruan, has a population of 554,906. Akwa Ibom is a States of Nigeria, state in the South South, South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It borders Cross River State to the east, Rivers State and Abia State to the west and north-west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Uyo Church Collapse
On 10 December 2016, the roof of the Reigners Bible Church International, an evangelical congregation, collapsed in Uyo, a city in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, during the consecration or ordination of the local bishop. At least 23 people are confirmed to have died in the disaster, with other reports stating numbers as high as 160. The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (formerly Akwa Ibom International Stadium) is a 30,000 capacity national sports stadium located in Uyo, the state capital of Akwa Ibom State, Akwa Ibom.
