The Uruguayan Football Association ( — ) is the governing body of association football, football in Uruguay. It was founded in 1900, as The Uruguayan Association Football League, and affiliated to FIFA in 1923. It is a founding member of CONMEBOL and is in charge of the Uruguay national football team, national men's team and the Uruguay women's national football team, national women's team, as well as the Uruguayan football league system. Montevideo
Montevideo (, ; ) is the capital city, capital and List of cities in Uruguay, largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2023 census, the city proper has a population of 1,302,954 (about 37.2% of the country's total population) in an area of . Montevideo is situated on the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata. A Portuguese garrison was established in the place where today is the city of Montevideo in November 1723. Julio Franzini
Ing. Julio César "Cholo" Franzini Molinari (November 5, 1926 – June 2, 2017) was a Uruguayan public administrator and association football executive. Franzini earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in the United States in the 1950s. He contributed to the establishment of the first Uruguayan television channel, Saeta TV Channel 10. A member of the Colorado Party, he administered the Oceanographic and Fisheries Service (SOYP) in the 1960s, inaugurating the first fishing terminal in Uruguay, and was ambassador of Uruguay to Egypt in the late 1990s. Franzini was the President of Defensor Sporting when the team were crowned champions in 1976, making them the first team other than Nacional and Peñarol to win the Uruguayan Championship. Andrés Scotti Ponce de León (born 14 December 1975) is a Uruguayan former professional footballer who played as centre-back and rarely as left-back. Between 2006 and 2013, he made 40 appearances and scored one goal for the Uruguay national team. Club career Early career Scotti was born in Montevideo, but grew up in Trinidad, capital of Flores Department. He started his career playing football for the local village team Independiente in 1993, when he was between 17 and 18 years old. Scotti won the regional tournament title in his second season with Independiente in 1994. After three seasons in Independiente, in 1997 he joined to Central Español on trial. Armando Irineo Castaingdebat Colombo (born 25 October 1959) is a Uruguayan politician who served as Minister of National Defense from March 4, 2024 to March 1, 2025 under President Luis Lacalle Pou. Wilmar Valdez (born 10 July 1965) is a Uruguayan football executive who served as interim President of CONMEBOL between 11 December 2015 and 26 January 2016. He took up the position after the resignation of Juan Ángel Napout which was related to the 2015 FIFA corruption case.
