''Upptåg'' is the third studio album from Swedish singer/songwriter Ted Gärdestad, released in 1974 on the Polar Music label. It contains the hits "Fantomen", "Silver", "Eiffeltornet" and "Viking". The album was produced by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Ted, engineered by Michael B. Tretow and features vocals by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. A non-album single followed in early 1975, the Melodifestivalen entry "Rockin 'n' Reelin'" (#7), backed with an English-language version of the track "Jag Ska Fånga En Ängel" from 1973 album '' Ted'', entitled "Gonna Make You My Angel". Both the English-language version of "Rockin 'n' Reelin'" and "Gonna Make You My Angel" remain unreleased on CD. Ted Gärdestad
Ted Arnbjörn Gärdestad (; 18 February 195622 June 1997) was a Swedish singer, songwriter, musician and actor known internationally as Ted. Gärdestad began his acting career in 1966 and began playing music in 1971, signing with Polar Music. Assigned with in-house producers Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Gärdestad released his first single, "Hela världen runt," in late 1971 and worked closely with the four members of ABBA to create his debut album '' Undringar'' (1972). As Polar Music's best-selling solo artist (aside from ABBA), he continued to work with the group members throughout the 1970s, releasing three more albums '' Ted'' (1973), '' Upptåg'' (1974) and ''Franska Kort'' (1976), which were moderately successful. In 1978, Gärdestad released his first English-language album, Blue Virgin Isles, which did not have success internationally, as his predecessor albums had in his home country. Malando Gassama
Malando Gassama (born Malang Omar Gassam; 7 February 1946 – 25 January 1999) was a Gambian percussionist who spent most of his music career in Sweden. He recorded and performed with many notable Swedish and international artists such as ABBA, Al Jarreau, Anni-Frid Lyngstad (of ABBA), Ted Gärdestad, Bette Midler, Gábor Szabó, Janne Schaffer, David Sanborn, Viktoria Tolstoy, Jaco Pastorius, and Blacknuss Allstars, etc. He was one of the backup musicians on ''ABBA: The Movie, ABBA - the Movie'' and was featured on documentaries which aired on Swedish television and radio. His last concert appearance was with Bob Manning (soul singer), Bob Manning's Soul Enterprise at Fasching Jazz Club in Stockholm. He died 2 weeks later in Gambia. ''Ted'' is the second studio album from Swedish singer/songwriter Ted Gärdestad, released in 1973 through Polar Music. It contains the hits "Jag Ska Fånga En Ängel", "Sol, Vind Och Vatten", "Come Give Me Love" as well as his 1973 Melodifestivalen entry " Oh Vilken Härlig Da'". The album was produced by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Ted, engineered by Michael B. Tretow and features backing vocals by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The CD version of the album was released in 1991. An English-language version of the track "Jag Ska Fånga En Ängel" entitled "Gonna Make You My Angel" was released as a single in 1974. The album charted on the Swedish Albums Chart and peaked at number seven in week 26 of 2020. In 2021, it reached a new peak of number six. The Swedish female duo group First Aid Kit has recorded both Swedish and English cover versions of "Come Give Me Love" (single 2020). Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which causes a length of magnetic tape to contact a Capstan (tape recorder), capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played for different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson (conductor), Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon (magician), David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. Tenor Saxophone
The tenor saxophone is a medium-sized member of the saxophone family, a group of instruments invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s. The tenor and the alto are the two most commonly used saxophones. The tenor is pitched in the key of B (while the alto is pitched in the key of E), and is a transposing instrument in the treble clef, sounding an octave and a major second lower than the written pitch. Modern tenor saxophones which have a high F key have a range from A2 to E5 (concert) and are therefore pitched one octave below the soprano saxophone. People who play the tenor saxophone are known as "tenor saxophonists", "tenor sax players", or "saxophonists". The alto saxophone is a member of the saxophone family of woodwind instruments. Saxophones were invented by Belgians, Belgian instrument designer Adolphe Sax in the 1840s and patented in 1846. Soprano Saxophone
The soprano saxophone is a small, high-pitched member of the saxophone family of woodwind instruments invented in the 1840s by Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax. Built in B♭ an octave above the tenor saxophone (or rarely, slightly smaller in C), the soprano is the third-smallest member of the saxophone family, which consists (from smallest to largest) of the soprillo, sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, contrabass, and subcontrabass. Ola Brunkert
Ola Brunkert (15 September 1946 – 16 March 2008) was a Swedish drummer who was one of the main session drummers for the pop group ABBA. Brunkert and bassist Rutger Gunnarsson are the only two side musicians to appear on every ABBA album prior to '' Voyage'' (2021). Born in Örebro, Sweden, Brunkert began playing the drums in 1958 and cited jazz drummer Gene Krupa as a significant early influence. He played with Slim's Blues Gang, before joining the pop group Science Poption. He then formed the jazz-rock combo with the guitarist Janne Schaffer, and by 1970 had become one of the most sought-after session drummers in Stockholm. He was not among the four members of ABBA whose faces adorned the album covers, but was a key supporting musician for the group as it achieved stardom. The bass guitar (), also known as the electric bass guitar, electric bass, or simply the bass, is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family.
