Upperchurch–Drombane GAA
Upperchurch–Drombane GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club is located in the area of Upperchurch and Drombane, seven miles from Thurles in mid County Tipperary, Ireland. They compete in hurling at both Senior and Junior A levels and in gaelic football at Senior and Junior B grade. The local GAA pitch is located approximately 1 mile from Drombane village. History It is claimed that P. J. Riordan from Drombane scored all of Tipperary's 6-8 when they beat Kilkenny in the 1895 All Ireland final. If true this would make Riordan the highest ever scorer in an All Ireland final beating the current record of 5-4 by Mick "Gah" Ahern of Cork in the 1928 All-Ireland final. Tipperary Intermediate Football Championship
The Tipperary Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised since 1974 by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second-tier Gaelic football clubs in County Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final usually being played in October. The championship has been played on a regional basis, whereby the respective champions from the Mid, North, South and West championships contested the county series of games. Now it is an all County 4 Group stage followed by knock out. The winning Club will receive the Barrett Cup. The Tipperary County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship. Michael Ryan (hurler, Born 1970)
Michael Ryan (born 4 February 1970) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He was the manager of the Tipperary senior team from November 2015 until August 2018. Born in Upperchurch, County Tipperary, Ryan first arrived on the inter-county scene as a dual player at the age of seventeen, before later joining the under-21 teams in both codes. After joining the senior football team during the 1989 championship, he made his senior hurling debut during the 1991 championship. Ryan went on to play a key role for the team, winning one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Ryan won two Railway Cup medals. Mikey Lee (born 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays as a centre-forward for the Wicklow senior team. Born in Bray, County Wicklow, Lee arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Wicklow minor team, before lining out with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 2013 National Hurling League. Lee has since gone on to play a key role for the team, and has won one National League (Division 2B) medal. Jody Brennan (born 18 November 1983) is an Irish sportsperson. He is a hurler from upperchurch and played for Tipperary. He plays hurling with Harps GAA Auckland, most notable as the man who stopped the "drive for five v Kilkenny" in 2010, as for also breaking the timber of Laois Stalwart Tony Connolly Upperchurch–Drombane and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team. James Barry (hurler)
James Barry (born 29 June 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays for Tipperary Senior Championship club Upperchurch–Drombane. He played for the Tipperary senior hurling team for six seasons, during which time he usually lined out in defence as a centre-back and later as a full-back. Barry began his hurling career at club level with Upperchurch-Drombane. He broke onto the club's top adult team as a 15-year-old in 2005 and has been an ever-present defender since then. As a member of the University College Cork team, Barry won back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cup titles. Barry lined out for Tipperary in four different grades of hurling over a 12-year period. The Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1979 for the third-tier hurling teams in the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Semple Stadium in October. The championship has always been played on a regional basis, whereby the respective champions from the Mid, North, South and West championships contest the county series of games. However, in recent years, the championship has followed the same system as the senior grade in Tipperary.
