Upper Capel, Western Australia
Upper Capel is a rural locality of the Shire of Donnybrook–Balingup in the South West region of Western Australia. The locality borders the South Western Highway at the north-east while the Capel River flows through it in the south-west. Upper Capel was the original name for the railway siding established in 1898 that eventually became the town of Kirup. When a town was gazetted there in 1900, it was named Kirupp and then Kirup from 1931. The current locality of Upper Capel is north-west of the town of Kirup and not directly related. Kirup, originally named Upper Capel, then Kirupp, is situated between Donnybrook and Balingup on the South Western Highway, south of Perth, Western Australia in the upper reaches of the Capel River valley. Kirup is one of the three main town sites within the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup. Capel River
The Capel River is a river in the South West region of Western Australia that rises in the Darling Range east of Mullalyup, and flows into the Indian Ocean at Peppermint Grove Beach. The Capel River is the largest in the Geographe catchment. It rises at the edge of the Darling Scarp and flows in a north-westerly direction across the northern part of the Blackwood plateau to the confluence of the Capel River North and Capel River South, near Goodwood. South Western Highway is a highway in the South West region of Western Australia connecting Perth's southeast with Walpole. It is a part of the Highway 1 network for most of its length.
