Uplands, Ottawa
Uplands, also known as Elizabeth Park or Airport-Uplands is a neighbourhood in Gloucester-Southgate Ward in the south end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the federal and provincial districts of Ottawa South, in the former city of Gloucester. It is bordered by the Hunt Club Road to the north, Uplands Drive to the east, and the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport to the south and west. The neighbourhood is adjacent to the military community living at CFB Uplands, which was a large air force base in the 1960s and which still contains residential housing for military members. The neighbourhood was first built around 1940. The neighbourhood was expanded eastward in the early 1960s. A newer neighbourhood named Wisteria Park was built around 2006 north of Uplands off of Hunt Club. Wisteria Park maintains its own community association. Gloucester-Southgate Ward
Gloucester-Southgate Ward (Ward 10) is a city ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. Located in the city's south end, the ward includes Gloucester Glen east of the Rideau River, most of the Ottawa International Airport, CFSU Uplands, Blossom Park, Greenboro, Hunt Club Park, portions of Heron Gate south of Walkley Road, the Ottawa South/Hawthorne Industrial Park and rural areas west of Anderson Road and north of Leitrim. Previously, the ward included the community of Riverside South located south of the airport but in a ward reorganization, the growing community was included in the new ward of Gloucester-South Nepean. Prior to amalgamation, this area was covered by Southgate Ward on Ottawa City Council and Gloucester South Ward on Gloucester City Council. Gloucester, Ontario
Gloucester ( ) is a former municipality and now geographic area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located east of Ottawa's inner core, it was an independent city until amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa. The population of Gloucester is about 150,012 people (2021 Census). History Gloucester, originally known as Township B, was established in 1792. The first settler in the township was Braddish Billings in what is now the Billings Bridge area of Ottawa. In 1800, the township became part of Russell County, and later Carleton County in 1838. Hunt Club Road
Hunt Club Road, also known as Ottawa Road 32, is a major east–west route in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It originally ran from a dead end east of Bank Street (Ottawa Road 31, formerly Ontario Highway 31) to the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club; later, there were many extensions due to the 1970s housing boom, first westward to Riverside Drive, then eastward to Hawthorne Road in the late 1980s. The section between Bank Street and Riverside Drive, originally only one lane in each direction, was expanded to two lanes in each direction in 1993–1994. It was further extended across the Rideau River and the southern edge of the suburbs to Richmond Road by the late 1990s; this extension is signed as West Hunt Club Road by the City of Ottawa. CFB Uplands
Canadian Forces Base Uplands (also CFB Uplands) was a Canadian Forces Base located in Ottawa, Ontario. Most of the land which formed the base was transferred to the Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport after the base was closed in the 1990s. Several military units continue to exist at the former base and the Canadian Forces continues to maintain military housing at the site. The former base is now known formally as "Canadian Forces Support Group (Ottawa-Gatineau) - Uplands Site." History The Royal Canadian Air Force established RCAF Station Uplands as a wartime training station of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1942. The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. With a response rate of 98.4%, this census is said to be the best one ever recorded since the 1666 census of New France. This census was succeeded by Canada's 2021 census.
