The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is a Sino-foreign cooperative university in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China. It was established in 2004 by a partnership between the University of Nottingham and Zhejiang Wanli University. The university is recognized by the Ministry of Education of China as an independent legal entity. The University of Nottingham considers UNNC as a campus of the University of Nottingham. History The University of Nottingham partnered with the Wanli Education Group, which managed Zhejiang Wanli University and operated in the Ningbo Higher Educational Zone. An agreement to establish the campus was signed in October 2003, followed by a joint venture agreement in March 2004. The Chinese Ministry of Education gave official approval shortly after, making UNNC the first joint-venture university to obtain legal status as an independent campus in China. Xu Yafen ( zh, s=徐亚芬, hp=Xú Yàfēn) is a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) politician and university administrator. She is a member of the 11th CCP Conference of Zhejiang Province and chair of the board of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, a partnership with the British University of Nottingham, and chair of the Chinese Zhejiang Wanli University. Xu is also a visiting professor at Tsinghua University and a research fellow at the Human Science Institute of the Chinese Academy of Management Science. Chen Zhili (; born November 1942) is a retired senior Chinese politician who served as State Councilor and Minister of Education, and a Vice Chairwoman of the National People’s Congress. She was also vice chairwoman of the organization commission of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Biography Born in Xianyou County, Fujian Province, Chen graduated from the department of physics at Fudan University. She pursued her postgraduate degree at Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, doing research of solid-state physics.
