The 2016 United States House of Representatives elections in Illinois were held on November 8, 2016, to elect the 18 U.S. representatives from the state of Illinois, one from each of the state's 18 congressional districts. The elections coincided with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the House of Representatives, elections to the United States Senate and various state and local elections. The filing deadline for candidates for major parties was November 30, 2015. The candidates listed below were the official filed candidates for the party primaries for each district, per the Illinois State Board of Elections. Objections to a candidate's nomination papers needed to be filed by December 7, 2015. The primaries were held on March 15. The Cook Partisan Voting Index, abbreviated PVI or CPVI, is a measurement of how partisan a U.S. congressional district or U.S. state is. This partisanship is indicated as lean towards either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, compared to the nation as a whole, based on how that district or state voted in the previous two presidential elections. Bobby Rush
Bobby Lee Rush (born November 23, 1946) is an American politician, activist, and pastor who served as the U.S. representative for for three decades, ending in 2023. A civil rights activist during the 1960s, Rush co-founded the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. Rush was first elected to Congress in 1992. He won consecutive reelections until his retirement. His district was originally principally on the South Side (Chicago), South Side of Chicago, with a population from 2003 to early 2013 that was 65% African-American, a higher proportion than any other congressional district. In 2011 the Illinois General Assembly redistricted this area after the 2010 census. The 11th congressional district of Illinois is represented by Democrat Bill Foster. From 1865 to 1867, the district included Bureau, LaSalle, Livingston and Woodford counties.
