New Richmond, Ohio
New Richmond, also known as New Richmond on the Ohio, is a village in Ohio and Pierce townships in Clermont County, Ohio, United States, founded in 1814, along the Ohio River. The population was 2,582 at the 2010 census. Geography New Richmond is located at (38.955086, -84.281720). The village is located within Ohio Township, with the exception of the Beckjord Power Station, which lies within Pierce Township. History New Richmond was once the largest and most flourishing village in Clermont County. Located along the banks of the Ohio River, it had a superior location about twenty miles east and south of Cincinnati. Glen Este, Ohio
Glen Este is an unincorporated area of Union Township, in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. History Glen Este, Ohio is named for early resident David K. Este, who owned a farm near the intersection of Glen Este-Withamsville Road and the railroad tracks, now State Route 32. He was an officer of the Cincinnati, Georgetown and Portsmouth Railroad and had a combination station and post office established on his land. The main road in town ran through the area of Donnell's Trace now old State Route 74, passing through a glen, hence the name. The Glen Este post office was established in July 1878 with an insignificant sign on the door that read: "The Eastgate to Cincinnati". One hundred years later, the nickname ''Eastgate'' came to be a regional name for the area around Glen Este. Withamsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce and Union townships of Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,021 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Withamsville was established in 1828, and remained in operation until 1923. The community was named for Rev. Maurice Witham, a pioneer who settled there around 1800. Geography Withamsville is located in western Clermont County at (39.058663, -84.269903), along the southern border of Union Township. The southeast corner of the CDP crosses into Pierce Township to the south. Summerside is a census-designated place (CDP) in Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio, United States. Its population was 5,083 as of the 2010 census. History Originally known as "East Mount Carmel", the name of the community was changed around the time a post office was established in August 1887. Through history summer has always been considered the easier time of the year. A term used during the pioneer days was "the summer side of life." The original post office and train station were together and opened on Aicholtz Road near Cinti-Batavia Pike / Rt 74 and operated by agent Kate Grissell. The post office board and Ms Grissell decided that they needed to drop the East Mt Carmel moniker and create a new name which was derived from the 'summer side of life' as the result of an actual contest to name the town held in the township. Mount Carmel, Ohio
Mount Carmel is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,741 at the 2010 census. History Mt. Carmel is one of the oldest communities in Union Township. In 1788 surveyor John Obannon and his team came in this mostly unsettled area to prepare for building and developing new homes and businesses. It was mostly inhabited by Revolutionary War soldiers. Their property was basically payment for fighting the battles through the Ohio Land Grant. This could have included several hundred acres. A pioneer from New Jersey, John Rose who was one of the first to settle there in 1796, is actually considered the father of Mt. Carmel. The only historical sign of his presence today is a very small graveyard where he is buried, going down Rose Hill entering Hamilton County.
