Geography The Gore Highway enters the locality from the north ( Athol) and exits to the north-west ( Southbrook). The Millmerran railway line enters the locality from the east ( Wyreema) and exits to the south-west (Southbrook). The Millmerran railway line is a 71 kilometre long branch railway in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia. History The Queensland Parliament approved a railway line to link Pittsworth, Queensland, Pittsworth with the east via the Southern railway line, Queensland, Southern railway line from Toowoomba in October 1885. Pittsworth is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Pittsworth had a population of 3,300 people. Geography Pittsworth township is south-west of Brisbane via the Warrego Highway, south-west of Toowoomba and is a service centre for the surrounding agricultural area. It is situated on the basalt upland section of the Darling Downs of southern Queensland which is undulating in nature and hosts mixed farming and intensive animal industries. Nearby is an alluvial flood plain, mostly leading directly to the north branch of the Condamine River. Robert Ramsay (19 March 1818 - 5 July 1910) was a member of the Australian Queensland Legislative Council, the Queensland Legislative Assembly, and the eighth Treasurer of Queensland. William Henry Groom
William Henry Groom (9 March 1833 – 8 August 1901) was an English-born Australian publican, newspaper proprietor, and politician who served as a member of the Parliament of Queensland from 1862 to 1901 and of the Parliament of Australia in 1901. Early life Groom was born at Plymouth, England, son of Thomas Groom, cordwainer, and his wife Maria, ''née'' Harkcom. Groom was educated at St Andrew's College, Plymouth, and apprenticed to a baker. He was transported from England to Australia as a convict in 1846 for seven years, having been convicted of embezzlement, aged just 13. He was eventually released, subsequently convicted again of a similar offence, and served gaol time in the goldfields in what would later be the colony of Victoria. After he was again released, Groom eventually found himself on the Darling Downs in Queensland, where, despite whispers about his chequered past, he became one of the leading members of society.
