Ulpiano Colóm
Ricardo Ulpiano Colom y Ferrer (3 April 1861 – 13 February 1906) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, during part of 1898. He was the second of two mayors to lead the municipality of Ponce under the Spanish Crown's "Decreto Autonómico para Puerto Rico", whereby Puerto Rico was granted autonomy by Spain. Early years He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on 3 April 1861. His parents were José Colom and Belen Ferrer. He was an attorney, a member of the House of Delegates of Puerto Rico, a councilman for the municipality of Ponce, an assistant in the Ponce Fire Department, a director and vice-president of the Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño, and a municipal judge, among the various other positions he held. Luis Gautier
Luis Gautier y Quesada (ca. 1850 – ca. 1920) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 8 December 1897 to 20 June 1898. He was the first of two mayors to lead the municipality of Ponce under the Spanish Crown's "Decreto Autonómico para Puerto Rico", whereby Puerto Rico was granted autonomy by Spain. Background Gautier Quesada's participation in the Ponce political landscape had a long trajectory. He had been one of the signers of the 14 November 1886 ''Plan de Ponce''. In 1887, he was one of 10 delegates from Ponce to the Island-wide political assembly held at Teatro La Perla, and which resulted in the founding of the Partido Autonomista Puertorriqueño. Barrio Magueyes
Magueyes is one of the 31 barrios of the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Together with Cerrillos, Machuelo Arriba, Maragüez, Montes Llanos, Portugués, Sabanetas, and Tibes, Magueyes is one of the municipality's eight interior barrios. The name of this barrio is of native Indian origin. It was created in 1831. History Magueyes is one of the oldest barrios in Ponce. It is home to Hacienda Buena Vista, dating from 1833. The word ''Magueyes'' is the plural form of the word Maguey which is a word of Taino origin. Panteón Nacional Román Baldorioty De Castro
The Panteón Nacional Román Baldorioty de Castro (English: Román Baldorioty de Castro National Pantheon) is a tract of land in Segundo (Ponce), Barrio Segundo of the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, originally designed as the city's cemetery, but later converted into what has come to be a famous burial place. Established in 1842, it is Puerto Rico's first (and only) national pantheon. It is the only cemetery dedicated as a museum in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Prior to being dedicated as a Panteón Nacional, it was known as Cementerio Viejo or as Cementerio Antiguo de Ponce, and is listed under that name on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Angina Pectoris
Angina, also known as angina pectoris, is chest pain or pressure, usually caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium). It is most commonly a symptom of coronary artery disease. Angina is typically the result of partial obstruction or spasm of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. The main mechanism of coronary artery obstruction is atherosclerosis as part of coronary artery disease. Banco Crédito Y Ahorro Ponceño (building)
The Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño building (or Banco Crédito, for short), a historic building in Ponce, Puerto Rico, was the first and main office of the historic Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño (English: ''Ponce Credit and Savings Bank''), and represents one of the last examples of the once popular turn-of-the-century eclectic architecture. The building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on June 25, 1987. It was built in 1924. The building was owned by Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño which was one of the largest banking companies in the country of Puerto Rico during most of the twentieth century. José Lloréns Echevarría (1843 – 8 July 1920) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, for three days, from 8 November 1898 to 10 November 1898. Early years Lloréns Echevarría was the son of José Lloréns Robles and Severiana Echevarría Quintero. He was director of the paper ''El Autonomista''. Mayoral term Due to the American Government centralizing the insular government in San Juan after the invasion of the Island, the American military governor of Puerto Rico at the time, Major General Guy Vernon Henry, not trusting his loyalty to the new American government in Puerto Rico, removed Lloréns Echevarría as mayor of Ponce and installed Luis Porrata Doria on 11 November 1898.
