Ulf Timmermann
Ulf Béla Timmermann (, ; born 1 November 1962 in East Berlin) is a German former shot putter who broke the world record several times during the 1980s, and is the first and one of only four people to ever throw over 23 metres (along with Randy Barnes, Joe Kovacs and Ryan Crouser). Timmermann was born in Berlin to an athletic family and took up shot put at 13. He broke his first world record in 1985 with a throw of 22.62 meters. On 22 May 1988 he became the first person to throw over 23 meters with a throw of 23.06 meters at Chania, Greece. East Berlin
East Berlin (; ) was the partially recognised capital city, capital of East Germany (GDR) from 1949 to 1990. Ryan Crouser
Ryan Crouser (born December 18, 1992) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and Discus throw, discus. He specializes in the shot put, in which he is the only three-time Olympic gold medalist, having won in Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's shot put, Rio de Janeiro, Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's shot put, Tokyo and Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's shot put, Paris, and also a two-time outdoor World Champion. Joe Kovacs
Joseph Mathias Kovacs ( ; born June 28, 1989) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 23.23 meters outdoors and 22.05 meters indoors. He won gold medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. He won silver medals at the 2017 World Championships, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympics. His personal best of 23.23 metres makes him the second best competitor all-time in the shot put event. Early life and education Kovacs was born in Nazareth, Pennsylvania on June 28, 1989. Randy Barnes
Eric Randolph Barnes (born June 16, 1966) is an American former shot putter who held the outdoor world record for the event from 1990 to 2021. He won silver at the 1988 Olympics and gold at the 1996 Olympics. Only three throwers have been within of his outdoor world record since it was set. Biography Barnes was born in Charleston, West Virginia, grew up in nearby St. Albans, and began putting the shot in high school. In 1985, he put an impressive with the prep shot of .
