Ukrainian House
The Ukrainian House International Convention Center (), is the largest international exhibition and convention center in Kyiv, Ukraine. The five-storey building is the host venue for a variety of events from exhibitions, trade fairs and conferences to international association meetings, product launches, banquets, TV-ceremonies, sporting events, etc. Location Ukrainian House is situated at 2 Khreshchatyk, overlooking European Square (Kyiv), European Square in the heart of the Ukrainian capital. The rear of the center adjoins the southern outskirts of Saint Volodymyr Hill Park. The building is not far from the main square of the country — Maidan Nezalezhnosti, as well as Dnipro Hotel, Khreschatyk Hotel and Hotel Ukraine. The Shevchenkivskyi District is an Urban districts of Ukraine, urban district of the city of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It was Subdivisions of Kyiv, originally established on 4 April 1937, although in 2001 its area was increased following an annexation of the former Radianskyi District, Radianskyi and Starokyivskyi District, Starokyivskyi districts. Klov Palace
The Klov Palace () is the seat of the Supreme Court of Ukraine in Kyiv. The building takes its name from Klov, a neighbourhood of Pechersk, Kyiv, Pechersk District. The Baroque residence was constructed between 1752 and 1756 with funds provided by Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The Russian royal family were expected to stay at the palace during their visits to the monastery, as they did in a wooden palace that had preceded it. The architects are thought to have been Gottfried Johann Schädel and Pyotr Neyelov. The actual construction was supervised by Stepan Kovnir. The main hall has the plafond frescoed in 1760. A formal garden was laid out around the palace. The palace was never visited by any royalty, however, and it was not long before it fell into disrepair. Catherine II of Russia, who was passing through Kyiv in 1787, preferred Mariinskyi Palace for her residence. Relief is a sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces remain attached to a solid background of the same material. The term ''relief'' is from the Latin verb , to raise (). To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane. When a relief is carved into a flat surface of stone (relief sculpture) or wood ( relief carving), the field is actually lowered, leaving the unsculpted areas seeming higher. The approach requires chiselling away of the background, which can be time-intensive. On the other hand, a relief saves forming the rear of a subject, and is less fragile and more securely fixed than a sculpture in the round, especially one of a standing figure where the ankles are a potential weak point, particularly in stone.
