Ueda Castle
is a Japanese castle located in Ueda, northern Nagano Prefecture, Japan. At the end of the Edo period, Ueda Castle was home to a cadet branch of the Matsudaira clan, ''daimyō'' of Ueda Domain, but the castle is better known for its association with the Sengoku period Sanada clan. It was also called or . The castle was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1934. The Scaife Mountains () is a group of mountains rising west of Prehn Peninsula and between the Ketchum Glacier and Ueda Glacier, at the base of the Antarctic Peninsula. Location The Scaife Mountains are in Ellsworth Land. They are southwest of the Latady Mountains and east of the Sweeney Mountains. They are bounded by the Ketchum Glacier to the north, which flows into Gardner Inlet, and the Ueda Glacier to the south, which flows into Hansen Inlet. The inlets are both ice-bound and join the Ronne Ice Shelf on the shore of the Weddell Sea. Features include Mount Macnowski in the north and Mount Mount Brundage and Mount Terwileger in the south. Hidetada came across the castle as he marched his army along the Nakasendō (central mountain road) from Edo to rendezvous with his father's forces. Sanada Masayuki resisted, and Sanada Yukimura, second son of Masayuki, was able to fight Hidetada's 38,000 men with only 2,000.
