UW–Green Bay Phoenix Basketball
The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the Horizon League for the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. They are coached by Doug Gottlieb. The Phoenix have appeared five times in the NCAA tournament, most recently in 2016. History The Green Bay men's basketball team began play in the 1969–70 school year where it competed at the NAIA level before moving to NCAA Division II in 1973. In 1982, it moved to NCAA Division I, where it competed in the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (now the Summit League). Since 1994, Green Bay has competed in the Horizon League (formerly the Midwestern Collegiate Conference). The Phoenix saw success in the early-to-mid-1990s, making their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1991 and their first second-round appearance in 1994. University Of Wisconsin–Green Bay
The University of Wisconsin–Green Bay (UW–Green Bay, UWGB, or Green Bay) is a public university in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. Founded in 1965, it is part of the University of Wisconsin System. As of fall 2024, student enrollment had risen to 11,188, making the school the fastest growing university in Wisconsin. Since its founding, the school has had an environmental sustainability emphasis; it was nicknamed "Eco U" in 1971 by ''Newsweek''. Dave Buss
Dave Buss (April 20, 1938 – July 2024) was an American basketball coach. Life and career Buss was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He played baseball at Coalinga Junior College and Florida State University. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, earning his bachelor's degree. Buss began his coaching career at Palmyra High School. After coaching at Palmyra, he served as an assistant coach at Winona State University and West Virginia Tech. In 1969, Edward Weidner hired Buss to serve as head coach for the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team. He was fired on April 9, 1982 and was replaced by assistant head coach Dick Lien. In September 1982, Buss was hired to serve as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 2010 College Basketball Invitational
The 2010 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) is a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament or the 2010 National Invitation Tournament. The opening round began Tuesday, March 16. A best-of-three championship series between the two teams in the final was held on March 29, March 31, and April 2. The tournament was won by VCU. The 2009 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2009 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the 2009 National Invitation Tournament. The opening round began Tuesday, March 17. A best-of-three championship series between Oregon State and UTEP resulted in an Oregon State victory on April 3. The 2009 CBI marked the first ever postseason tournament championship for Oregon State as well as a successful conclusion to head coach Craig Robinson's first year. The 1996 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 14, 1996, and ended with the championship game on April 1 at Continental Airlines Arena (now known as Meadowlands Arena) in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mike Heideman
Michael David Heideman (March 29, 1948 – June 30, 2018) was an American athletic coach, at Xavier High School in Appleton, Wisconsin, and head men's basketball coach for the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. Midwestern City Conference
The Horizon League is a collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region and in part of the Southern United States. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001.
